Hey Guys and Girls,

So I have had this Fender Strat for the past 6 years. its a 1985 Japanese Strat just so you know. Anyways, Im looking into buying another Strat. The issue im having is i have gotten so used to how i rest my hand against the bridge on my current guitar, that no other guitar feels comfortable. Now, i have looked around for a while now and have never seen my bridge anywhere else. Below is an image of my bridge (please mind the missing whammy and bolt, i have them around somewhere). If could help me figure out where i can find purchase another one of these bridges, or even if they still make them i would be thankful.

Fender Double Locking Tremelo. Similar to Floyd Rose, etc. I think it may have been called a Spyder bridge but I'm not 100% sure. It was a pretty common bridge on the 80s strats out of Japan.

That's a Fender System I Trem.

http://www.wammiworld.com/System%201.html for parts and info. That's the only site I know of that even has parts regularly. As far as buying a complete one, you may just have to scour the auction site and CL as I don't know of anywhere that sells them and they are out of production. Made by Schaller for Fender, but they don't offer them anymore either.

Jeeze, I didnt realise the 80's Japanese strats were looked highly upon. Ive treated the poor thing like $@!&. Thanks for helping me find out what bridge it was. i guess i have some browsing to do. Does anyone know if i buy a new strat if one of these bridges would fit it, i guess what i mean to ask is are bridges universal?

There were actually 3 different versions used for MIJ guitars.

well, its definatly the system I now that i have seen the three. im kinda bummed to hear that they dont make sell them stock with guitars any more. I guess when i pick up a new guitar ill swap the bridge from my current guitar over.

is it a bad thing that i have grown to feel the most comfortable on this bridge? im kinda annoyed that they are so uncommon, i love the way it feels and plays.

I was a bridge rester myself and one of the first things I worked on was a compromise. I like to palm mute a good bit and eventually I found a good position. The bent steel saddles on the new traditional bridge don't lend themselves to this approach but callusses do... 8)
