I notice quite a bit if dfference in the weight of stratocasters.

And not comparing apples and oranges, I mean a difference in weight within a particular model, for instance "american standards"

Does anyone know what the typical weight range is?

All things being equal, does a heavier stratocaster give better sustain etc.?

Well, I dont know if it affects the sustain, there are stories on both sides but I have a Strat at home tipping the scale at almost 11 lbs.

A lot of people do feel weight results in sustain. For me, I was truthfully so impressed with how much sustain my alder MIM Std has, I felt compelled to weigh it. It came in at 8.5 lbs. So, to some, that is considered an anchor (however, it never felt excessively heavy to me like a Les Paul does). Also ... polling a few others with relatively recent Strats (MIA & MIM models) there seemed to be a common range of 7.5 to 8.5 lbs.
