They are so good, they should be called Norte Americano Stratocasters.

Here is the trem cavity of my roadworn strat. Is it veneered?

bluesguitar65, I think you are misunderstanding my previous posts. I said that when veneer is used on sunburst bodies, they paint the "sloped away" area of the back (the contoured belly-cutaway) all black. See where that contoured area is all black in this picture:

Image

The earlier picture, of the pallet of veneered body blanks, shows that the front contour is veneered. The wood supplier veneers it after cutting the contour. But the back contour is cut after it's veneered, which cuts away the veneer too. They then hide that by painting it black.

I don't think they use veneer on the Road Worn models. That's because the relicing along the edge would probably expose the edge of the veneer! But the higher cost of the Road Worn models is getting you better quality body wood!

The two I had back ten years ago just did'nt do it for me, by the time I mod one to my statisfaction I've spent MIA money. For me, I would'nt own anything but an MIA . Just my personal opinion

I agree with you about the quality of the MIM strats ten years ago, but recently I believe MIM QC has improved very much.

Yes, MIM Strats are worth the money. They are fine instruments. Stupendous instruments, indefatigable instruments, lyres of the Gods no less, absolutely, totally, ummm...(running out of superlatives here) mo' betta.

Buy more MIM strats!!!!! Now!! So Fender can become more profitable...and open another factory in another country.

And hurry up so we can see the MIM vs. MI-Zimbabwe threads.

**Note- Not to be taken seriously :D

My Squier is solid, no veneer.

It's three pieces of alder.

What is the purpose of using a veneered body for the sunburst finishes?

You are welcome.

In that sunburst body, you can see that the wood in the trem cavity doesn't match the wood on the surface: another clue that that body has a veneer on it.

How many pieces is mine made from? I cannot tell, I think three. But it could be just two, joints are too good. Look at the top and the bottom of this body, it's a little decieving.

This one is two pieces, right?

I agree, looks like three. Alder never comes in wide blanks. I've been a cabinetmaker for years and when I buy it an 8 inch wide board is a rarity. 8) Mike

Thanks, Hiker! I'll play one if I can find one. Once things have ceased production they tend to vanish quickly, though (not sure if the dealers send it back or what happens). I might find one second-hand.

I'll still have a play of some MIM's today and see what i think.

Thanks again! :)

It makes the finish look better like a piece of funiture. Solid wood funiture cost a whole lot more then a veneered piece and I mean a lot more. Also if you look at those body blanks the front already has the taper for the forearm when received.

It's the damned guitars  They rob us of our better judgement and reduce us to fawning, drooling Fenderphiles.
