Greetings,

I have heard before that the Highway Ones had problems with the tone circut prior to '06 I beleive, what were the problems? Were there any other problems that the original HighwayOne guitars had?

i have a 06 highway one hss strat and i have no problems at all. The only negative is the previous owner smoked and it had a stale smell. I since had the smell removed via dunlop cleaner.

Not sure what the problems were. I have an '07 model and it is very nice. Only complaint about mine was I had to change the tuners on it to Fender/Schaller locking tuners. The G tuner would not hold the string correctly, and if I was going to spend money on tuners, I got the best while keeping it Fender Stock.

Thanks for the replies. Well my HR Deluxe is too powerful for a practice amp right now and I want something I can use everyday if I want to without offending the neighbours

As for my Highway One it is a fantastic guitar and the pickups sound more responsive than the '04 Highway that my friend had lent me before. I never played this guitar before I ordered it from the states and when I received this guitar I noticed three things from the '04 model that I was playing

1. The neck was thinner, and I mean proper thin which is great for lead work.
2. The guitar was a little heavier.
3. The strings were ever so slightly closer together.

I know I am splitting hairs here but I am sure you guys can understand that when you spend allot of time playing your guitar, you want it to feel right. I have been trying to get used to this guitar so I have put even more hours in, but the neck stills feels 'different' and I miss the thick neck that allows your to really get behind it for support.

As I am really learning guitar I found the '04 model the ideal guitar to learn on, it just felt right in my hands and I have played several quality guitars from different brands that just did not feel as good as that one. Well I will see how it goes but soon I will be going around my friends house to play his '04 model and I am going to play everything I know on that guitar, so if it feels good right away than I may just been on a quest for a second hand HIghway with the original features :)

I'm aware that the H1 models from 2006 onwards have the "greasebucket" tone circuit - exactly what is this? How does it differ from the standard tone control on a Stratocaster?

If anyone could help answer this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! :)

Greasebucket in a nutshell is, bridge pickup is connected to tone 2, middle pickup no tone control, and neck pickup is connected to tone 1. Also, tone controls filter out the highs when lowering the tone and not increasing the lows. Personally, I like the greasebucket over the the delta tone which the Amercian Standard Strats have. I can get that nice creamy Clapton "woman tone" with the my 07 highway one.

That's a new one ... I have never heard that.

My HW1 is an HSS from late 2005, prior to the mid-2006 "upgrades," with the Greasebucket tone circuit. It works great.

Thanks, bluesguitar! :D

I appreciate your help. I just put an '06 Highway One on lay-by, loved the sound I got from it in the store, and had noticed the differing tone configuration, but just wasn't 100% sure about the nature of the difference.

Thank you once again!

I have an '03 Hwy1 Strat (their 2nd year of production) and I've never had a problem with the tone circuit or anything else.
