martian-
if I disseminated my true feelings on this subject in any kind of detail, I'm sure this thread would wind up getting deleted due to the red hot, scathing rebuttals I'd surely get.

+1 but truely its a matter of perspective. having a technical backround i know the processes it takes to get the item to the finish stage and to relic seems to be stepping back more than a few feet. Im guessing martian by the language you use you come from technical beginnings. others have different backrounds and look at it from another angle - thats america baby - and thats cool.

The Vintage Price Guide lists prices for Low and High Condition. When the Road Worn guitars make it to the guide are they automatically going to the Low Condition price then?

Indeed, how would one define, "As New Condition"? I guess they'd have to compare it to a known, NOS and verify what is factory defacement and what is not.

Martian,
Once again you are a shining light for the beacon of truth........and it is not a train! I have been playing for over a year and I got myself a MIM HSS Standard strat but the GC salesman told me for the same price or "a little" more you can get a road worn.....I ask what that was 'cuz at the time I had no idea....so he goes over to the old beat up guitars that I had just walked passed assuming they were there for repairs and says look at these beauty's.......so I just start laughing and the guy looks at me as if I insulted his parents...I tell him there is no way I will plunk down $500 of hard earned $$$ for these guitars that look like Ted Nugent took them hunting.........to this day when he sees me he shakes his head and asks me how I like my MIM...cuz I could have got a better axe......I always tell him.....not unless Clapton or JM walked up to me and handed me "Blackie" or "The Black One"..........Thanks

I'm guessing Fender is making a lot of money on relics. They've put machinery and technology in Mexico and taught Mexicans how to spray nitrocellulose. And called it ROAD WORN. Maybe someone at Fender saw a stack of damaged bodies and necks and thought what can we do with these. I've also heard that it started when rock stars wanted copies of their originals made. I admit I like some of them. Gibson has jumped on the bandwagon. See their latest Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates repro. Old is new, new is old. What is hip!
