I find that I play my best when I have a good bass line behind me. With blues especially, I need that strong bassline to keep me honest, and give me rythym.
Heres one for you guys,
I have a 98 american standard, and my brother just got an 08 american standard. Even after 10 years with my strat, I pick his up, and playing feels so effortless after playing mine. It drives me crazy, and he assures me that my playing is equally crappy on both, so with that said, I guess its my imagination again, but I know I play better on his, and it bothers me, as anyone on this site with a competitive younger sibling should understand.

I find the "some days" phenomenon to be true of just about every guitar I've ever owned. I've never totally understood it, but I accept it. I think there is a lot of truth to what firststrat said about tuning. I think that's a very big part of it, especially with acoustic guitars.

Most of the time for me that is a sign that I need some fresh ears. So I need to put it down for a while. If it persists beyond that, then -- for me -- that is usually a sign that I need new strings.

You know what guys, she's behaving herself today. I think ear-fatigue may be a part of it as well. I always tune her good, else by the time you add some kinda modulation they sound terrible if a wee bit out. Yet I'm not sure if it's my mood. Being Monday after all :0)

String's have been recently replaced aswell, with another little setup to adjust the string height on the B.

Tis a mystery to me, I swear I didn't touch a setting, yet today the lady sings!

I'm thinking it's difficult as the guitar is organic, whereas my digital stage piano's will always give me exactly the same kickass tone.

It's gotta be the wood and the weather and some unknown forces though most probably, me.

Cheers

Jedi

Yup, temp, humidity and us.

In the words of that great American 20th century philosopher, Jerry Reed, "...when you hot, you hot, and when you not, you not...."

Sometimes its not the guitar or even the player that is the culprit, its the amplifier or even just the speakers in the amplifier. my personal belief is that speakers are MUCH more affected by changes in temp, humidity, blah, blah.
Sure, the strat just like most guitars is made of wood, but generally that wood is coated in some kind of paint-type coating.A speaker on the other hand is hanging out there naked to the elements, and alot of them are high in paper content - the main ingredient in paper towels !
That being said, sometimes you just need a break from that one special guitar in your life. i often find that picking up a different guitar when my beloved is just not doing it for me can bring fresh new inspiration .
