Hello, what other strats are you talking about? US strats?

There's no problem with what you wrote Big factory.

It was a double question. First, I never played a US Strat so I wondered if there was an enormous difference between MIJ and US made ones. Then, I wanted to know your opinion about Strats made in other countries like Mexico or other ones (Corea I think and maybe China...)

Just two things I didn't write about my axe:
- I changed the pickguard for a black one but the original was white (I still own it of course)
- The trem is only usable toward the low notes, the other side is "locked" (sorry, I don't know the correct word; I hope I can be understood). It's a pity but I'm not a dive bomber at all anyway   .

I agree with you.

It's the same debate for the low cost imitations like the fake Gibson or else made in China. I read a guy who has bought one after he had seen a pic on Internet. He imagined it would be a quality approching the original but when the "guitar" arrived at his home, it was simply horrible: the sound, the painting, etc...

Of course this is not really the same idea, as MIJ are Fender Strats too (they can be Squier too) and the material used for it is practically the same as US ones. I guess there are MIJ less well finsihed than the contemporary.

I played for years on an Ibanez imitation that was made in Japan or Corea (I don't really know it, the trade is "Vantage" and I changed everything but the body and the neck not a long time ago) and the day I first played the strat, I felt like I had touched the Grail. :D

I read that the wood used for the body could be "sen" sometimes too.

I had no idea that my "beater" Strat had such a history. Bought it off a friend years ago. Pickups are a bit on the thin side but it has a great action. This has the Kahler Spyder marked trem on it. S/N is 6 digit starting with "E8" A few pics:

Very nice! :)

I only saw them Olympic white or 3 tone sunburst. I wonder if there are other colours. It's strange because fender Japan had already produced a bunch of other colours at the time they issued. :?:

I didn't think about asking if there's a date written on the buttom of the neck. It would be nice to make a list of the serial numbers may, which may help us to date at leats the neck. Don't you think so?

I just acquired a guitar just like the white one in the photo. This one has a very dark grey (almost black) metal flake finish. Don't know if its aftermarket paint. The guys at guitar center are pretty sure its factory. They have it right now to set it up. Unfortunately the pickguard was painted over with lightning bolts and is broken at the top right screw hole. Is there anyone that knows where I can get a new pickguard? It is not a standard 11 hole due to the Kahler Tremolo bridge being wider than the new standard strat bridges. Thanks.

Hi HardCoreZen!

It's a pity you couldn't let a few pictures before the guitar was set up because there are plenty of interesting hidden details on every part. I will post new pictures myself as I have to change strings and rubbers for the mics.

You should check the serial number that's on the neck deck and the writtings between the neck and the neck pocket. This would already help us to determine a date and maybe know if the colour is factory made or not. I don't think so as I've never this colour on sites dedicated to MIJs.

I once changed the pickguard on my E-serie and I couldn't find a specially shaped one for this kind of trem, so I guess you have to shape it yourself too... Anyway you have to choose a three plies white one.

It would be great to see pictures of this guitar!

Here is mine: http://www.21frets.com/cgi-bin/forum/Bl ... 250103969/

You will see the black pickguard I had set on it.

Hi,

I've read all your interesting submissions but unfortunately can't really figure out where my fender comes in. It is completely white, with double floating pick up , and 2 single pick ups with the Kalher spyder (all black) tremolo and bridge that clamps the strings. Black head, on pick protector. It calls itself a Strat by Fender and on the underside said made in USA. Serial number E849131. Beautiful looking guitar.

Can anybody please help me identify the origins of this guitar? I bought it new years ago not really knowing what I was getting, so if anybody knows that would be great?

Thanks,
Alan

I have a Strat with a Floyd Rose tremolo. Bought it new in store in the mid 90s. Actually need to replace some parts of that tremolo and trying to figure exactly what version of Floyd Rose that was (see it has 1 gold screw, that one is not original, the original is stuck but I want to buy another closer to the original, also lost half of the tremolo arm coupling kit).

It just says Floyd Rose II on the tremolo. The guitar has been modified a lot and repainted in a crazy way but that Floyd Rose tremolo is original, it came with it. Its not the Fender Floyd Rose clone version.

That guitar is still playing great despite the Floyd Rose needing repair.
