Yoe, I bought a mexican made 62 Strat remake back inthe 90's (it says guitar center 30th year anniversary on the neck plate). Can anyone tell me if the pickups are anything special or if the guitar is worth more than any other strat. I've never seen another one!

I have never seen one of them or heard of that either, the neck plate is something though, it may be a possibilty the guitar was built/engraved for a "Guitar Centre" that turned 30???? Not sure there. Is the neck plate engraved or stamped with the Fender logo on it too? How does it sound? in positions 2 and 4 on the selector switch, does it cancel hum? If it does, it may be that the pick-ups are of USA STD with a reverse wound middle pick-up, if it doesn't, the pick-ups are either USA or Mex re-issue. If you can/want to take the scratchplate off, you will see on the bottom of the pick-ups some numbers stamped into the mold, I can't remember off memory what they are but there is like a part number stamped, the USA STD don't have the number stamped, The Tex- mex, Mex Re-Issue and HW-1 all have a number stamped into them. Hope this is a help.

Thanks Dan. I checked it again last night and it is a " Guitar Center 29th Anniversary 1962 Reissue". I'll check the pickups tonight although I remember that the 2 4 positions did cancel hum previous to me replacing them with EMGS. Still wonder about the damn thing. The neck plate says "Guitar Center 29th Anniversary" on it. So, I guess it is commemrating GC 29th anniversary also. Funny thing is,,,one of my new students, a 10 year old kid, walked in the other day with his dads guitar,,guess what it was,,, yep, a 1962 Strat in virtually perfect condition. He said his dad bought it for 100 bucks in college and never plays it anymore! I told him I'd give him $200 heeheehee!

if you could get it $200 it is an absoulte steal!! Ha ha! No harm in trying!! Let me know how you go with the pick ups, sounds like your guitar was specifically built for GC's anniversary! That is a piece of history i reckon!!

i just came across one of these 29th anniversary (guitar center) pieces....62 reissue neck, mxnXXXXXX serial number is on the back of the neck near the heel (where the Japanese put lots of their serials), flame maple to[ and back, vintage tuners, and a DiMarzio rails type bridge pickup (which may or may not be orig. If anyone can shed any light on these, please let me know. Fender 800# says they are a special run and they have no info. Any help appreciated.

Hi
I know this is an old post but just wondering if you found any info on your guitar. I have one the same, msnxxxx, at the heel of the neck, fotoflame body, mint pickguard, vintage MIA pickups and electronics, but can't find anything out from Fender, they say it has the same spec as the GC 30th anniversary, but don't have info on serial numbers for pre 1994 models

If your serial is found at the heel of the neck it was built in Japan, not Mexico. Over the years, Fuji-Gen has offered several fotoflame editions, all of them a veneered body (alder over basswood) with a decal appliqué providing the "flame".

Thank you for your reply, i have always thought that only Japanese strats had the serial number at the heal of the neck, however, i sent John Page detailed photos of the guitar and he confirmed the neck and body were Mexican, the rest MIA, i included a photo of the serial number, which he didn't raise as an issue, he did say that strange things were coming out of Mecico in 1993 when the guitar was made, and many special runs. Michael Roberts from Fender sent me an email stating that although he couldn't confirm it was a Fender serial number (as the database wasn't 100% at that time, it did share the same spec as the GC 30th anniversary model, there at two other guitars the same mentioned in posts on the internet, and one of them has a mex serial number in the same place
