Post subject: switching hot wire on a vol control ?

Hello , i have seen guitars that switch the hot wire from the middle of the vol pot to the left side and the wire from the 5 way switch to the middle pos.i was wondering what purpose this might have.thx fret

It is done both ways. The center leg is a constant leg and the outside leg is a variable that changes the amount of signal that is sent to ground leg by turning the pot knob. By changing the two you are just changing the path with the same result, kind of like wiring a single pole light switch backwards and you end up with the light on when the switch is in the off position and vise versa the light still works the same.
The same signal is going through both legs which is why people put treble bleed caps between the two allowing more treble to bleed to the output as the volume goes down :shock:
