Well, for what its worth, I just picked up my Am Deluxe and stopped by to have my guitar teacher check it out. He's a well-known and well-respected guitar player in our area and he thought the S1 feature was absolutely fantastic... I trust his opinion so I'm way happy. If the switch breaks, I'll just replace it...

Thats the way to look at it! It is a 24.00 switch and easy to change out.

Congratulations! I knew you would like it. I don't understand anyone that can't tell the difference with the S-1 engaged or not. It makes a lot of difference in my tone. How does yours sound? The Deluxe is a great guitar. Enjoy my friend! 8)

O.o Maybe I need a new switch. :d

I notice it on the neck pickup and the neck/middle, but that is all it seems to have an effect on.

Something I should check out?

I don't know Krad. Maybe try another one out at the music store and compare. It is not a super fantastic difference but it does fatten up the tone. Like I said earlier some like it and some don't.

Oldguy101 can you post some pics of your baby when you get an opportunity? Love pics!

Yeah, the two positions sound noticeably fatter, but that is it, I just tested it to be sure.. :-/

Here you go Krad. Read the switching section of the spec link below. It tells you how engaging the S-1 will change each pup from parallel to series and which pups are effected. Hope this helps you.

Ah, thanks.

What does the verb "Series" mean in the Pickup Switching section?

Back to my original question............Can you get the S1 switching system installed in a MIM HSS strat and the costs associated and if it's worth it..................

Your original question was ambiguously the S1 switch. Notwithstanding, the answer to your first question here is, yes, it can be done. The costs associated with it would be pretty much the price of a new MIM. And I know it's bad form to ask a question with a question, but do you think it is worth it?

I dont post much on forums....but I do read them. Let me start by filling you all in on where i come from.

From 1975-82 I played semi-pro guitar (did the clubs about every weekend) I got married ,had kids and got out of it until this year.

In 2004 my wife did buy me a Std Strat ....and i still play it today.

anyhow Jan of this year i decided I was going to get me some great gear and try my hand at music again...so being out of the loop for a long time....and being a pro-Amirecan I knew I was going for a AM. Strat...did alot of reading...then drove the 70+ miles to Guitar Center and strated trying them out...one of the things i stayed clear of was the Deluxe with the S-1 ( just knew it was something just waiting to go out).....but one did catch my eye 2008 olympic pearl, rosewood fretboard HSS ......Then i moved on to a 2008 AM.Std. Sienna Sunburst (I seen pics of them and wasnt impressed.....but face to face its so unreal) w/ maple neck SSS....so i got them both.

So this brings me to the point (and im sure all of you that read this far is saying its about time) even though i play the Am. Dlx. at least 16 hours a week i still fear the S-1 swich (though i have not had any troubles so far)...but it seems to be about 50/50 for/agisnt here it lets me know its a matter of luck and likes.....thank you to all you fender gods.

One thing i do notice....the Dlx is much louder then the Am. Std. (pick-up wise. I play through a Hot Rod Deluxe and need to change valume up or down (both was set-up the same at the same time so i think its got to be the pick-ups)..or maybe the strings...i played ernie ball .08 back in the old days....so thats what i got this time aroun also.

Thanks for your patience...I'll try not to post anymore.

Jimmie
