Can a S1 switch be installed on a MIM Standard HSS Strat and what is the going rate for such an upgrade & is it worth it?

Presuming you mean merely the S1 switch and not the entire 'system' that goes with it, the price would be about $35 for the switch and knob plus however you want the guitar custom wired which the switch will facilitate.

A word of caution though: That is one poorly made switch which will eventually break down, even with just moderate use.

I don't make 'em, I just replace 'em.

Congrats on your new purchase!

I just spoke with the manager from Guitar Center and my Fender connect and they both said the S1 switches are terrible...he has repaired more than he has sold....DON'T GET THE S1 SWITCH.....I REPEAT DON'T GET THE S1 SWITCH...this is just based on the research I have done....hope it works out for you!

I would not worry about Your Deluxe oldguy101. I've never had any type of problem with mine. It's at the apex of Fender's production line. How many times have you heard of people having trouble with a MIA Deluxe? I've heard some people say the did not care that much for the S-1 and just as many that like it. Congratulations on your new guitar!

Mine's a 2004 that I bought new. It's been played at least 10 hours a week since and got it and there's never been an issue. Just enjoy it!

Hello Trauma! Everything has been good. Hope it's the same for you and yours! I do have to defer to Martain on how well built the switch is, as he is the forum expert on electronics and pickups. :) If he says that particular switch is not well made I believe him. I was just saying that I've not had any problems, yet! If I do I'll get it fixed. Have a good one my friend!

Thanks fhop..I hope you and yours are well and enjoying the summer.......I was actually thinking about getting the S1 installed on my MIM HSS but after Martain & GC plus my "Fender insider" suggested otherwise I will leave well enough alone..."if it ain't fixed then don't break it" - Yogi Berra

Quote from fender sales pitch.

Players should also get some peace of mind from the fact this is a Fender installed and approved system covered by their five-year warranty. Normally you'd have to buy a new Strat or Jazz Bass and immediately butcher it to shoehorn in an active preamp, humbucker, or versatile switching system, destroying the warranty in the process. All that is part of the past, thanks to the S-1 Switch. You can get the sounds you want without sacrificing your instrument's well-being or warranty.

I have a Deluxe, and I should say it isn't that fantastic.

It's durable enough for me, I've had it for about a year.

The tones you get from it aren't -all- that noticeable, almost not worth it.

It's nice to say you have it though, there's novelty in that. :]

If you've played with a guitar with an S1 in it and really like it, go for it, but my amp can recreate any sound the S1 can make, so I have no real need for it.
