Well hello there!

So I have an electric blue squire strat I got from a friend, after getting the chance to play a couple higher-end strats (John Mayer and Clapton signature guitars, along with a few others) I really just can't get the same feel, but I also can't seem to get 5,000 dollars for a custom strat....bother.

I REALLY enjoyed the neck on his guitar and was curious if someone could tell me the measurements so I could look around for something close to that, or possibly a tad more narrow (not all of us are born with gorilla hands). And of course, anyone who has listened to Gravity loves the tone he has. I've been looking for the big dipper pickups but all I can find is a place called torresengineering.com that CLAIMS to have duplicated these...

Can someone set me straight on these subjects please?

Big dippers aren't available aftermarket. By an eq pedal put it into the input of the amp and scoop all the middle out. That should get you pretty close to their sound. As far as necks go try ebay. As for a mayer neck i dont know. A clapton neck should be available from stratosphere, if not try a 57 hotrod neck. Their not to dissimilar.

No kidding. And Fender is missing out on a lot of money by not selling them seperately. Releasing these with a modest advertsining campaign, and they would sell them by the truckloads. Easily...

Eldred talked about maybe offering them on their own, but have not heard anything new. BDs sell on Ebay for about 500 a pop, so if you have the cash, go right on ahead. watch the stratosphere for necks. they go for about 600.

There is a guy who posts here once in awhile who can wind and make something real close to BDs.

Check the pickup area for some samples of his work.

For what big dippers and a Clapton neck would cost, you could get a better guitar. The Jimmie Vaughan Strat is MIM and it comes with a V neck that would probably feel similar to the Clapton Strat. Or you could just get a JV neck. And I'm sure they've got to have other MIMs with V necks too. (Right?)

Welcome to the board (or at least to posting on it),
sbutler21! :)

Don't be a stranger - particularly with useful tips like this one.

You've got to love these (I assume) one man band outfits like klein pickups. True devotees labouring in obscurity to create something worthwhile. In the UK (Wales), there's a guy called Spencer Mumford who set up Shed Pickups to handwire and recreate rare p/ups, rewind etc. I take my hat off to these people and others like them.
