Just picked up my new American standard strat today - wow what can I say - except I think my fingers are going to start to bleed. Theres a sticker on the guitar saying that using any gauge strings but what comes standard will require an adjustment to the tremolo spring- - What comes standard? I want to use E.B pinks - .009. Will this require any adjustment?

Welcome and congratulations!

Personally, I think Fender adjusts their tremolos too high to begin with.

Notwithstanding, your guitar comes with the same run of 9s (.009 to .042) as a Super Slinky set. You shouldn't have any problem.

Learn to adjust your springs. (EDITED: the rest of this paragraph didn't really need to be shared here. --ForumAdmin)

Take the back plate off your guitar, examine the tremelo system and its operational mysteries will be revealed. You will experience a revelation. If not, there's always the harmonica. (EDITED: this too.) Your choice.

Um yeah, most of that last post was totally unnecessary -- watch yourself, now.

You may have to re-adjust the intonation if you change to a different gauge of strings. Also, you may have to adjust the neck truss rod. Adjusting the tremolo springs is not the only thing that may need adjusting if you change to a different gauge of strings.

'Personally recommend you take the instrument to a hot tech and give them your preferences. An American Standard is such an outstanding instrument, it deserves a super-special-extra-good setup.

You will have a big ol' smile on your face when you play, thereafter.

Best of fortune.

Well, as stated by others, the standard strings are Super Bullet 3250Ls (9 - 42). Also, I would imagine that the saddles are set high so it won't buzz.
You may want to look at adjusting them or have a tech set it up. Normally, if you buy it from a store, they will do that for you. As far as those EB Pink 9's you should be fine.
Enjoy

Hope my question wasn't troubling to you- Id really hate to put you on the spot or anything. So how long have you played harmonica?
