I hate to keep saying it but Fender really has no heart at there customer care service.... Well they had no pity that it was a woman who was in a car accident and loved her guitar so much she just wants to get it fixed if thay cant take pity in that. If it was Peavey they probably would of sent flowers and a new guitar -Class....

What the...??!?

Fender is a business. They are under no obligation to repair or replace an instrument that you, yourself, have destroyed, and that is not indicative of a lack of "heart." Furthermore, you have no evidence that any other guitar company would do any differently... just a crazed supposition that maybe Peavey would be so nice about it as to achieve a level of idiocy.

I don't know why this thread is this long - although I suspect it has something to do with the OP's feminine name - but there is no discussion to be had:

If your guitar is damaged and destroyed in a car accident, then your insurer or the insurer of the other party (if you live in a state where "fault" is attributed in accidents) will either pay to repair or replace the guitar (through a Fender authorized repair center) or they won't. The end.

Mary,

Yes, it was I.

Just for my (meaning, your) personal satisfaction, I'd play out the authorized facility scenario up to but not past the point where the out of pocket expense would start. This is provided of course, that the inconvenience is minimal.

I know I am probably in the minority here when I say this but, no matter how much one loves their particular guitar, it is still only a tool in terms of self-expression and tools, no matter how comfortable one is with them, in time, can not only be replaced but replaced by ones which exceed the expectations of the prior.

Now I know you feel the body is for all intents and purposes, intact and still, "ready for duty". Premising this is the case, if I were you, I'd remove the destroyed neck off the body, have those hair line cracks in the body competently sealed (so they don't get worse) and start my search for that MIM guitar which has a neck most acceptable to your comfort per my above tool analogy. I'd then mount that MIM neck on the ash body and part out the MIM body and whatever spare parts are left over, thus recouping a good deal of your expense due to this entire issue.

Theres only one course of action an that is to go through your insurer for a new guitar. The current one is a write off, it cant be repaired. I completely agree that no other guitar manufacturer would replace the neck free of charge. I cant even get friends to do their job for free as a favour and i dont plaster walls for nothing as a favour to them.

A good case for instrument insurance.

Slapchop you know exactly what I meant when I said they would give her a free neck or are you one of the happy guysthat your getting such a bargain that Fender is giving $100 rebates 3 months after a 30% price increase yea its called buisness and if your interested I have a nice bridge here in Brooklyn you can get in on. The bottom line is she broke the neck of her guitar just sell her a new neck its very easy no need for all this red tape bullsh!t. The Peavey remark is that i had got some Wolfgangs off ebay this year and that company went out of there way to get me any part from a screw to a wammy bar that they charged me $7 that they could. They had me on the phone 15 minutes talking gear while the guy was looking up a serial number to tell me what year a guitar was made gave me his personal extension and said what ever I needed call, and I bought the guitar used. That is also called business GOOD BUSINESS . I like how Martian new what the outcome was going to be. Fender makes a great product but there customer care service is the worst because they dont care and I cant stand all the boot licking Fender this and Fender that people keep slobering get over it when your wrong your not right . Just like the people who are happy to spend a grand and get a gigbag when all these little companies sell a $300 guitar with a case. Fender is becoming like them corksniffers Gibson. And Slapchop I agree with you on a lot of things so dont take the parts of this pointed your way personal as you like to dish it out but feel free to fire away with what you think I said that is not true.

Experience is the best teacher. As you might surmise, I'm no stranger to a multitude of manufacturers' warranty procedures. And reinforcing your point, knowing Hartley Peavey, he'd do everything he could to, "soften the sting" of Mary having to have her neck replaced.

maybe you could find a neck on ebay? i hear warmoth makes some good necks. good luck, i don't know what i'd do if my precious strat was damaged like that.

I live down the street from both Warmoth and USA Custom Guitar. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with USA. Their master luthier used to work in the Fender Custom Shop, and then at Warmoth before he went to work with USA.

BUT - look over both of them very carefully, it's your decision to make; like you said - It's your baby.

Cheers,

Shane~

i dont mean to be a bugger about this, but its my baby here!

those necks that are for sale... they are EXACTLY the SAME as the necks on fender guitars? i mean, if a blind guy were to pick up two strats, one right out of the factory and the other with these replacement necks... could he tell the difference?

i am a firm believer that the wood of the neck affects the tone... is the wood in these replacement necks the same as the actual fender necks? will they sound the same? i know no two guitars sound the same, but i mean, will they sound like crap? i dont want to invest in a new neck only to have it sound like its made out of tin (minus the sweet sustain from the tin- lol) does anyone know anyone who has bought & used these replacement necks? i would like to talk to them and hear feedback

I had the neck on my old Squier HM broken in a little run in my son had with it when he was a lot younger. It was cracked almost in half right behind the Headstock. I had it repared, but it was never the same. I went looking for a replacement neck for it, I wanted the same headstock (it was not your typical Squier/Fender-type headstock). After running into many road blocks, I finally settled for a replacement neck.

I got it from a company I never heard of before called Warmoth. I was told that they were licensed Fender replacement company. I was asked what I wanted. I ended getting a Birds-eye maple neck, rosewood fretboard, albone inlays, rolled frets, and replaced all the orginal componets from the old headstock. Could I tell a difference between the old and new neck...YES. The Warmoth neck was 10 times better than the old neck.

Check them out...sorry no Fender Decal
