Hi, I have a lite ash strat, and its my baby. the thing is, I got into a car crash. the back of the neck is splintered right at the joint where the neck meets the body. one of the neck screws is bent in the socket. the body is cracked but still intact. the pickups are fine, and the jack is fine.

i want to know if fender would replace the neck? how can i get my baby repaired? who do i call? I would like to get the neck replaced (its a maple blonde neck) but I would love it if i could get the fender decals on it. (i dunno, a neck without the fender logo on it just doesnt seem like a real fender neck- im picky!)

I havent gone to my local music store for a set-up because im worried they will mess with the cracks and charge me for it...

I put the guitar back together after the crash and its been playing fine, but the action is a little high... can someone help me?!

Welcome to the forum! To answer your question, No, Fender will not sell you a neck. Sorry to hear about your guitar! Good luck.

You could always get on ebay and try to buy one. There are also sites like WD Music etc. where you can buy a Fender authorized neck but it will not come with the decals. Contact the Fender support section on this website for any help.

i dont mean to be a bugger about this, but its my baby here!

those necks that are for sale... they are EXACTLY the SAME as the necks on fender guitars? i mean, if a blind guy were to pick up two strats, one right out of the factory and the other with these replacement necks... could he tell the difference?

i am a firm believer that the wood of the neck affects the tone... is the wood in these replacement necks the same as the actual fender necks? will they sound the same? i know no two guitars sound the same, but i mean, will they sound like crap? i dont want to invest in a new neck only to have it sound like its made out of tin (minus the sweet sustain from the tin- lol)

does anyone know anyone who has bought & used these replacement necks? i would like to talk to them and hear feedback

Neck wood doesnt affect tone to any significant degree.

Just claim for a new guitar on the car insurance.

I'd recommend checking with your insurance company. Hopefully, the car insurance will cover it if you file a claim.

If explained to the insurance people that you cannot buy a genuine Fender replacement neck for any of their guitars, upon the insurance company's verification of same (if they don't know this already), there's a good chance they'll declare the guitar totaled. And with the settlement check, you can buy a new (or new enough) neck from a parted out Fender Strat of your choice on e-Bay or maybe even a whole other Strat for that matter.

to the car insurance guys-
you would think it would be that easy! no no no, with my crappy luck, the bastard who hit the car i was in doesnt have insurance. doesnt even have a liscense. doesnt live in the U.S. legally. thank you lord- not.

and to the guy with the claim about neck woods having no effect on tone-- I highly disagree. With personal "see & hear" experience (basically having 4 guitars- 1 blonde maple fret&neck, 1 rosewood fret&neck, 1 bmaple neck-rosewood fret, 1 bmaple fret-rosewood neck,-- and the same set up, playing the same riff) i can tell you that I personally hear slight differences in the tones with woods... I tend to hear a lighter, but not pinchy-er tone out of blonde maple necks, and heavier tones out of rosewood... but thats just me.

I can deffinitally hear those different tones i just described in acoustics more clearly.

I'm far from an expert on these matters but wouldn't your insurance cover it under the, "comprehensive" part? I honestly don't know and am just presuming. That's why I suggested you might at least want to give 'your people' a call. You've got nothing to lose, right?

no i understand where you are coming from, but, i wasnt driving, and it wasnt my car. so legally, the insurance company can just laugh at me. my friend did get a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE amount of money for it, but of course, he spent it on things that he didnt need.

it seems that you, Martian, are an expert on everything else (guitar-related i mean) on here... have you had any experience with these replacement necks?

Hi marymurrah: just before you go down the sensible route suggested above, just take a read of this:

http://www.fender.com/support/faqs.php#q7

We have in fact heard of people getting replacement necks out of Fender under certain circumstances. A part failure (broken trussrod or similar) is an obvious case in point.

Damaged in a car crash? I simply don't know. But I have heard of someone getting a replacement neck for a headstock broken by dropping the guitar, which is somewhat similar.

I'd email Fender Consumer Relations and run it by them, see what they have to say:

consumerrelations@fender.com

Then at least you'll know for sure and can proceed appropriately. If after all they say you can have a replacement neck we'd all be very interested to hear about it, if you care to let us know...

Good luck - C

PS: I'm certain that my car insurance would cover your costs on this, regardless that you weren't the driver. Everyone's policy is different, of course...

Only if they were bonafide warranty issues. Ones caused by damage you MIGHT get a replacement decal from them after jumping through hoops but a new neck, no way, not since the 70s.

Hi Martian: was that in fact a comment on my previous post? If so, you may well be right.

But I'm thinking back to a few other replacement neck issues we've had when Fender have surprised us all by being more flexible than we'd all expected.

Worth an email to Customer Services, at any rate. Nothing to lose...

Cheers - C

Actually, it was.

Agreed on contacting Customer Service. All she can do is try but from what I've seen...
