I have a 2006 (NAM upgraded) Highway One Strat that I LOVE. I am wondering what would all would be involved in dropping a humbucker in at the bridge? Is the body already pre-routed for a 'bucker? Would I just need a new pickguard and the new pickup?

What are your thoughts on humbuckers in strats? Some people think its against the law. ;) I just love the guitar and want to make it the most versitale insturment that it can be...

any thoughts or info would be great!

My 2006 Upgraded Highway is routed for a bridge humbucker. So all that would be needed is a H-S-S pickguard.

Now ...I don't want to pee on your parade....I own 2 HWY 1 HSS's. Depending on what type of humbucker , it may or may not require some 'trickery' .
Case in point........I put Gibson humbuckers in both my HSS's. My guitar guy had to use a small hole saw to deepen the cavity to accomodate the 'taller' legs on the Gibson 'bucker.
I don't know if the same is for DiMarzio, Duncan...ect.... :?:

It was worth it on my end.....the Gibson 'buckers ROCK!!! :P

Throw a Duncan '59 in the bridge and you will be a happy camper.

A '59?

that's weird.
I'd normally use a more treble-ie pickup for the bridge

i think its an awsome idea and u should go for it!!!!!!!!! strats are awsome with the 3 single coils but u add a humbucker in the mix and then u have an awsome ,very versatile ax.

A MIM Strat that I had I put 3 Bill Lawrence Single Coil sized humbuckers in it. I had wired it so I could split each pup and so I could use all 3 at the same time or bridge/neck. There was 14 different pup combos I could use.

Got ya beat, Chet. I got 15 with 4 tone options. Well, at least on paper. I'm waiting for the S-1 to be sold so I can complete the job. EvilBay prices on S-1 plus all the other crap I don't need are out of line.

I took my Humbucker out of my HSS Highway one and put the Alnico 3 single coil in. Man, I love this pup. When I dial back the "Greasebucket" tone to 3 or so, it sounds like my Les Paul with 57 Classics. When I dial it to 7 or so, it sounds very Blackmoreish. I get the best of both worlds! I just love the tones I'm getting with alll I can do with this Highway One!
