I have a question about a Strat I may purchase. Here are the specs;
Serial # Z2229760 (2002)
wine red satin body with maple fretboard
3 single coils w/ white plastic trim
small style headstock (60's)
My question is, what was the first year of production for the HWY 1 series of Strats?? Was it 2002 or 2003?? The store wants $424 for it, and it is in original, very good (8.5-10) condition. Sorry, no photos. My Vintage Guitar price guide notes the 1st year of Hwy 1 production as 2003, but this site dates it as a 2002 model. Anybody have any info? Is $424 a fair price? Thanks as usual.

The highway one's WERE made in 2002. Here is a good reference for a 2002 currently on the market.

Mine was made in October 2002, according to consumer relations.

I paid a little less than that for mine, but it was an estate sale. $424 seems reasonable if it is in good shape.

There have been postings recently of Hwy 1's going for $600 (incl tax). That puts the price before tax at about $540 for a new one. So $425 for a used one that is all original and in near pristine condition seems very fair.
