Did you know that it is possible to have multiple pickup combinations with the addition of one single throw/single pole switch and two one inch wires(and a little bit of solder)? b= bridge, m = middle, n=neck. combos as follows: b, b+m,m, m+n, this is the standard. add the additional wires and you get: the standard plus b+n, b is the dominant tone, n+b, n is the dominant tone. or all three just like coil tapping, spreading the current around changes the electrical value of your pickups thus providing the combination of all three pickups at the same time and it sounds way cool, mellow and bluesy with any of these new addons. Take your box remove the strings (do not forget to insert a small block of wood under the bridge so you do not f-up the springs) unscew the pickguard, flip it over and solder a one inch piece of wire to the selector switch "b" to the switch then solder to the switch (it does not matter which contact as there are ony two choices) then to the "n". Yes... you will have to deface your guit box with a small hole for the switch. It is worth it in my opion. I know that Fender attempted the same with push button switches with the american standard isssued years back. fcallaghan@att.net

Why, yes, as a matter of fact, we did. Even with the OEM pickup selector switch, multiple pickup combinations can be had and by rewiring that switch itself, different pickup combinations aside from the OEM design can be achieved too.

And it only gets better: One doesn't even have to, "deface your guit box" as a push/pull pot (which has a DP/DT switch) can be used in lieu of an SP/ST switch to achieve the same result. And using a push/pull pot with the DP/DT switch or multiples thereof also facilitates for even more possibilities such as (but not limited to), series/parallel pickup options, coil taps, standbys, preamps, the list goes on and on.

I have been experimenting with different wiring options on my Strats for years.
With my latest I had a pickguard special made without the slot for the 5 way. I drilled 3 little holes in it's place and mounted 3 on/off/on (on/off/out of phase) toggle switches. I used 3 dual concentric pots to give me volume and tone control for each pickup.

Hi !
I'm very, repeat VERY pleased with the "hot little knob" by Rothwell.
Makes the guitar so much more fun..My tech installed it, I guess it's explained at the website.I use the bridgepup more because of this, and it's
not visible at all..except for the fact that the bottom tonecontrol is a few mm up.
I also just installed the Villex passive booster (the one that is hidden inside/under the jackinput.) More power ! It's a killer combo :-)

The hot little knob can be heard here : www.myspace.com/bergsinferno

True... Stratocaster, nicely tweaked, priceless! By the way the switches look cool, to me anyway. Also added a phase switch dtdp switch ala the sultans of swing, showing my age. Finally who is we? Love ta pick your brains.]

goober, I think Martian was making the point that the information you were bestowing on the group was not revolutionary in any way, and that, as a group, the users of this forum have already discussed a dozen ways of adding the pickup combinations you mention.

Heck, you didn't even mention the best way... by converting your second tone to a blender pot. (Did you know...?)

Always best to look around a forum for a while before swooping in with expert advice. Apologies to Martian if I misread his post.

Your interpretation was correct, no apologies necessary!
