alright, i have found a local ad for what the seller is calling a "mexican highway 1 style stratocaster"

as far as i know, highway ones are made in the US, right?

currently i do not have any pictures, but i asked the seller to send me some.

but he did send me the serial number - MZ 8019399

"Your guitar was made at the
Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico
in the Year(s): 2008 - 2009"

the only other information i know is that it is black, with a maple neck, SSS configuration. and "sparkling new"

from this information does this seem legit? i know its not much, but the "mexican highway one" part. kinda makes this deal seem a bit off.

but maybe the seller does not know too much about the guitar

il post pictures when i get them.

thanks in advance, any information on highway ones, or a possible "mexican highway one" is greatly appreciated.

Yes the Highway Ones are US made. Sounds like a possible bait and switch. Sounds like it has the appearance of a Highway One, but is a MIM strat instead. I would ask for pictures, or to check it out in person.

A play on words. It's like a Mexican made American type guitar  Catch your eye?

Looks like the seller switched the necks on the 2 guitars. He has a Highway 1 with a MIM neck, at least looking at the 2 guitars together that's what I see. Be careful. I would not pay more than $250 unless he changes the neck back. I also would want to play before I payed.

the seller is stating that the red one is an american standard. and the black, is still unconfirmed to what it is.

Either that seller is completely ignorant about what he has or he is trying to pull a fast one on you.

Run away.

The neck on that reddish one has a Highway 1 neck or at least a '70's style headstock. I know because I have a Highway 1 guitar with a headstock just like it. It seems funny that he has a guitar with a Highway 1 style neck next to a Mexican Highway 1. BTW...Hanible is correct, Fender does not make a Mexican Made Highway 1. They are all made in the USA. Some of the parts are the same as the MIM guitars. I think someone on the forum states it is 85/15 mix. But the body and neck are made in the US and the guitar as a whole is assembled in the States. I think the seller is blowing smoke...what I call switch and bait.

If the seller is selling a Highway 1 body and MIM neck, the real question is it worth $350 CD to you, I was quoting $250 US and I am not sure the conversion. I know it is close. If the guitar still has all the growl and bite that mine has, I'd buy it, but for $250 US. Sorry.

This is gospel here.

It appears that as someone said above, he swapped the necks, at least.

I wouldn't give a dime without inspecting both guitars closely. His add is either clueless or deceptive. Either one means proceed with caution, if at all.

Neither axe is rare. These guitars, or what they purport to be are common, and cheap. There is no need to go near anything that is at all iffy.

For more expensive and rare guitars, it is worth it to check em out, and find out if they are legit. Don't get me wrong, you always want to be dilligent, and for higher pried guitars all the more so. But with these guitars it is so easy to find legit guitars with no question marks, it isn't worth the time and effort to even look into anything that has even a hint of question.

alright thanks everybody, i think im steering clear.

i even doubt the body is a highway one, it has a glossy finish, indicating probably a poly...

as far as i know. highway ones had a nitro finish,

its a pain too, its darn near impossible to find a somewhat local, used highway one.

=/

Nitro finishes can be matte, or glossy. The HW1 came matte(flat,) but a lot of people polished them, so that isn't really the deal breaker. But I would stay away from anything fishy, unless you feel you have the expertise to tell.
