Hello All,
I was wondering, I have a chance to buy a lefty strat, but it does not say Stratocaster or any serial #, patent #, just FENDER on the head stock?
Did Fender ever do something like this?
thanks!

There use to be Fender decals floating around. Not having a serial # would concern me.
Good Luck

I would be extremely skeptical of it. I don't know for sure but I don't believe that they made one without a serial number. Can you post a pic. and our experts will examine it for you.

They used to do that with some of their lefty basses back in the late 60s through the mid 70s but not with the lefty Strats. Any lefty Strat from any of the Fender, "dynasties" had a complete logo. Granted, sometimes these logos were slightly rearranged from that of the righty models but they were still the 'whole package' nonetheless.

As has already been implied, your lefty Strat may be a fraud.

Fender put out quite a few Lefty strats with only a Fender decal on the headstock.

What year is the guitar in question?

The serial number could be on the neck plate.

If it's a mid 80s MIJ it is worth the asking price. Can you give us a link to the pictures?

here is what I have, if you go to Kijiji Toronto > buy and sell > musical instruments & type in left handed guitars you will see the ad it is a black lefty Strat.

the ad quotes "Strat guitar, left handed, black, well used road warrior"

I have a Lefty 80's Japanese Strat. The only thing on the front of the headstock is "Fender"

The serial# is on the back of the neck above the neck plate.

That's a nice looking strat nedeye. Mine say made in japan on the front of the headstock along with the serial number. Mine is a righty though.
Chet(CaFeathers) is our expert on MIJs as he owns several.

Here's a 1972. I've seen a few others of that era at gbase that only have Fender on the headstock.

Thanks.

If it was an early '70s like the one I posted, it would be worth a few bucks more than that!
