For whatever reason, the five-way is almost alwys stuck in the middle on a Strat. Nice, balanced, clear sound, it's a fave. Hum? So what?

How's bout you folks, what's your fave setting(s) for the selector switch?

The neck pickup. It sounds great clean and awesome with some overdrive.

Depends on my guitar, effects, pickups, setting.

I find myself on the middle if I'm not doing any high gain lead stuff with my fenders. On my Jackson it never leaves bridge ;)

When I had the stock pups in my 1196 MIA, the middle pup was just the one I used to mix with the bridge or neck. I pretty much never used it by itself.

When I switched to noiseless Dimarzios, with their Area 67 in the middle, the middle pup is my favorite by a smidge. Compared to the Area 61 and 58 I have in the other positions, the Area 67 packs extra midrange that really cuts through and sings. Love it.

I suspect that whether someone finds the middle (forgotten) pup to be a strong choice singly, may have to do with what kind of pups they have.

That describes a lot of my playing too, though of course I use 'em all on occasion.

Nice to hear that not everyone is neglecting their solo middle pup.

Cheers - C

I'm just the opposite. I use the outer two pickups, oftentimes together and the only time I use the middle pickup is when I'm playing a song whose tonality requires it to be teamed with either the neck or the bridge.

I acutally use my neck and bridge for the most part but started playing with the middle pickup over the weekend and I think I'm going to start doing it more often since it sounded so good.

Robin Trower has said many times that the middle is his favorite and that most everything on Bridge Of Sighs was done in the middle position.

I am either on the neck or bridge 100% of the time. As a matter of fact the middle pickup on my strats are sunk as far as they can go. I played teles so long that when I got my first strat it was kind of uncomfortable to play because of the knob configurations compared to a tele and the fact that my pick would always hit into the middle pickup when picking. When I got real comfortable slipping my pinkie between the volume and tone knob I read an article with Richie Blackmore where he said the middle pickup bothered his picking so he sunk em so thats what I did . Years later I found out Yngwie does the same, he even goes as far as disconnecting them so I know there are more of us out there.lol

Paul Simon prefers the middle pickup too as does Graham Gouldman.

I use and like all 5 positions. My favorite this month is the neck pickup; but I spent years during the 80s when I only used the "quack" positions--2 and 4.

Pretty much on the neck but for heavier stuff I use the bridge I have a Highway One HSS. It is the only strat I have had the neck pickup is not to bassey.
