I like John Mayer but I think that version sounded too much like elevator music.

The last elevator I was in that played music featured some kind of techno/trance thing. very cool.

But I never understand this comment. What's the problem with it... not enough machismo and stupid rock aggression? Too melodic? Played too expertly, too much in tune and in time? An arrangement that fits together too tightly?

John Mayer can mop the floor with you and any 20 of your best guitar playing buds, and he can burn the house down when the mood calls for it. Why would expect him to go gonzo at a FUNERAL? That just isn't a valid criticism given the circumstances.

I agree. JM can put on an amazing performance and bring everyone to their feet, but a funeral is NOT the place to do it. He played very gracefully and tastefully. There is a time and place for things and I think he got it right with that version of Human Nature.

I anticipated some vocals but when he started playing the melody it just sounded cheesy. I didn't expect a raunchy rock concert at a funeral, I just didn't dig it.

I did not like it when I watch it on you tube! Predictable sound! ( I would not watch the show ) MJ had some great songs back in his day but the dude was a weirdo and did'nt warrant the time and effort. Though I do wish we still had all My Sisters Jackson 5 albums I would be selling them while the lovefest is at its peak.

My friend comes up to me and says
"hey did you see that guitarist at the MJ thing? He was the only white one who performed so it was hard not to notice him. I was just saying to my mom how he was terrible and you are much better on guitar"

I couldn't believe it, JM taught me how to play guitar.
He went for pure simplicity in my opinion, which I would not consider a bad thing. Human nature is one of my favorite MJ songs so I was happy he chose that. Its a shame in a way because I would liked him to have pulled off a better performance so he would get more respect. And people keep mentioning how they thought it was boring etc.

Also no matter what people say, I believe MJ was innocent. It wasn't till he died that I really considered how he has always just been there in the background. There are vids of me as a child singing his songs on karaoke, dancing like him. I used to have his CD's and loved watching 'the making of thriller video' on VHS. I hate how people are jumping on the bandwagon now but oh well.
