Theres no doubt that has happened if it is working like it has coil tap. I would say the tech was not knowledgable about how the S-1 system works and how that pot can be up or down and the switch splits the coils in certain positions. It would explain why it is noisey just wired wrong.

Aldric why dont you go to him and ask him how how he wired it. Then show him what Martian wrote and tell him that this is how it should be wired and then tell him he should be working his real job. A SHOE MAKER

Not realy because he has to use the Red an White with the S-1 they are not taped off as described ealier. Fenders wiring of a Humbucker have the Red, White and Black going to the switch. Just follow the S-1 switch wiring detail. Can't wire it like a regular 5 way switch.

You might want to review this. Duncans are not configured like Lawrences (SCNs).
