I recently decided to put a jb junior pickup in my american deluxe strat. Now it makes so much noise its unbearable. Aperently its incompatible with the s1 system but the guitar tech who was installing it, the guy who sold me it, and the store clerk failed to mention it. Maybe they didn't know, but now my strat has been rendered useless :(

Yeah, it's ruined. I'll pay for the shipping if you don't mind sending it to me for a decent burial.

That really sucks. I dislike it when people who work in a field dont know what is and is not compatible. I used to deal with that all the time when I worked in car audio, I had to be the expert of compatibility because our other sales people didnt know and didnt want to learn.

Sad to hear that your deluxe is ruined for right now, such a beautiful piece of art those things are. Get it fixed and she'll be back to her old beautiful self

Hi aldric_m: is it? Why?

I have the S1 on one Strat so I'd be glad of any information you have regarding pickup compatability.

Thanks - C

Aldric ,
It may be something as simple as a bad ground. There's no reason the JB shouldn't work unless they wired it wrong. Martian is a great guy to ask on this subject or you may research some wrirng diagrams on this site or others. I feel your pain...

So get thee to the shop and have it returned to stock config.

None of us are perfect, and let's face it, sometime we learn the hard way...techs and people in shops, too.

Sympathies. Think of it this way tho; it'll make you appreciate the stock setup, more. And remove temptation to phart it it.

Sympathies on a lesson ick-ily learned.

It is wired incorrectly, plain and simple as Duncan stacks are quite compatible with the S-1 System.

Sounds like BS on the tech's end. I have a JB Jr, use it with high gain at loud volumes, have a custom wiring on it, and it's one of the quietest pickups I've ever had. S1's are put on Fender with normal humbuckers too. There's no reason it should just be "noisy" at all. They didn't put it on right and/or don't know how to fix it.

I took it back to the guy and he was trying to sell me a load, saying that it was supposed to be louder than my single coils!

OH, PULLLEEEASE!!! The volume, yes, the hum, no!

If you want to go try and get your money back, here's how to wire it. I presume you are mounting it in the bridge position:

With the Duncan, solder together and insulate the red and white wires. Next, wire the green wire to the pickup selector switch where the OEM pickup's red wire was. With the black wire, solder that to the same place the OEM's black wire was; the bare wire gets grounded.

Yes, that is all.

I am curious aldric, How did your tech wire it with the S-1 system that your Deluxe has with the 3 single coils ? Did he do it like a American HSS with the S-1? Probably did not know how to wire it with the S-1 going from 3 sig.coils to two single. + one double coil. You have to remember what the S-1 does switch up or down is different in a SSS to an HSS.

he ran it so the jb without the s1 button pushed would run as a single coil like a coil tap i guess. Once you pushed the s1 it would run as a humbucker.

You should be able to split coil that thing with the switch up or down. Switch down position two and switch up position four should be single. Up position five should be just the bucker and down 3,4,5 should be bucker.

By using the switch on the S-1 pot for the JB's dual sound, some OEM options might have been disabled.
