.... And I shelled out for this beautiful baby today:

1997 Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Stratocaster, Tobacco Sunburst with a maple fretboard. My second Voodoo Strat (first one is technically the 2001 '68 Re-Issue Reverse Headstock Strat since it was made after the lawsuit for those of you who know what I mean).

Anyways, I've been gigging pretty hard and I was doing all of that on my Olympic White Voodoo Strat until I made a project reverse headstock strat out of a Cypress Mica John Mayer strat. The Cypress Mica became my main strat but even so, both guitars are suffering from fast wear. Two years ago I had the pleasure of meeting John Mayer and he signed my white strat, and since then it's been accumulating more and more sentimental value while getting more and more worn down. It will need a refret soon, and quite frankly I think I'm going to retire it from gigging duty.

That's where this guy comes in. A strat model that I love and am already comfortable with, that I'm not afraid to play hard. Yeah, I'd be mad if the new strat got stolen, but I'd be devastated if the White one got stolen or damaged during my travelling and gigging. So I'll start splitting stage time between this new Voodoo strat and my other project strat.

What you've just read is a bunch of rationalizing for why G.A.S. got the best of me.

Anyways, I'll post more pictures when she arrives in my hands. I'm hoping to get it by Thursday before I leave for weekend shows so I can really see what it's made of, whether that means getting it next day mailed, or going to pick it up.

Stay tuned.

dude, that thing was the one I saw on ebay a day ago. you invested 1800 wisely, my friend. ANY guitar with ties to Hendrix almost ALWAYS has good resale and value. my '80 Proto strat reissue should hold too.

mthomp, nice score and dont worry about the GAS as this is the time to have it. With the economy so bad it is a shame but a lot of guys are selling some great gear that if times were differant they would never let go of. I bought 5 axes in the last 4 months the last being a NOS tele deluxe from a store in SAN FRAN for $1,070 how can you turn down saving $700 . As there is no adjustment period once you set up the new ax to your specs just retire your white one to the studio to record with. That was money well spent. KEEP ON ROCKIN

Hi mthomps07: I think you made a slight slip with your thread title. I feel sure you meant to say:

G.A.S. has gotten the best FOR me again...

Nice gas attack: nice guitar!

Congrats - C

You need to get off eBay and out of the house more

That really is a great looking axe and apparently was delivered as described. The one thing which forever bothers me about the build on that issue is why they didn't finish the logo upside down, like a proper reverse neck would be displayed. It is one of the company's many 'dumb and dumbers.'
