Hello ppl!

I wonder if you will take a look at this setup and tell me what
you´re thinking.

First some info about my playing!

Guitar: Stratocaster American Standard -08
Gear: Playing through a PODXT , into computer.
Style: Vai,Satriani,EVH. Hard rock, metal
Wants: A distinct tone, hi gain but also some depth in it. Bass and treble!

I´ve done some researching and I think this lineup will do for me..

Neck: Chopper DP184 DiMarzio

Middle: Fast Track 1 DiMarzio

Bridge: Fast Track 2 DiMarzio

And for the potentiometers I plan to use my standard Mastervolume (250k), and for the tone (T1) I´m planning to buy EP1202 1 Megaohm, just to get a little more power and treble response.
And for the TBX I´m gonna use the original pot.

Take a look at the schematics please and see if it`s right.

What do you think of this installation ?

Regards

Peter

Looks great, but I'd go with Hot Noiseless pups and for the recording end of things, use the virtual assortment of plug-ins.

Welcome Peter!

For your stylings, you've made excellent pickup choices and the diagram is correct. However, I would use straight 500K Audio pots for everything if I were you. The 250K volume pot will choke those higher output pickups' frequencies making the pickups sound brittle and compressed. A megohm pot will make the circuit more treblier but not louder. You may also experience that the megohm pot will seems to not be working properly in terms of 1 to 10 dynamics and it will just ramp up from say, 4 to 0. Yea, I'm aware DiMarzio likes to push the 250K/1000K (meg) combo but I stand by what I've said, especially since the resistance of the volume pot is infinitely more critical when it comes to pickup dynamics (frequency response). As for the TBX pot, in essence, all the TBX pot does is force high frequencies beyond the detent but as a trade off, limits the range of the normal tone pot it is ganged with. Here too though, a TBX pot will exhibit the traits of a 250K pot for the aforementioned reason. I'd also use a .022uf (microfarad) capacitor for this circuit.

Ummm...sorry, dude. Don't mean to be a buzz kill here, but you best go with some real side-by-sidehumbuckers for that style of music. Single coils have their place ( and it's beatiful) but I don't see getting a reasonable EVH tone with anything than a Humbucker. Just my two cents.

Never mind...I misread your post. Sorry, those pick-ups should do the job. Rock on.

Hixz you made a fine choice. I have the Dimarzio fast tracks in my 62 reissue tele for over 10 years and they are slammin and will give you just what you need. I would also point out that Martian is right in what he said about the pots as I remember when my friend Mike put them in for me he changed the pot on my tele.Let us know how it turns out.

Wow what a great response, I`m stunned!!

Thank you so much for taking your time!

Ok guys, I must say I´m a little bit confused right now..

I`ve read my guitarmanual and I´m actually not sure if
my guitar have a "TBX" or a "DELTA-TONE" control...

My English is not that good =),

On Stratocaster American standard -08 , is it "TBX" or "DELTA TONE" ?

A Delta Tone circuit uses a No-Load pot instead of a TBX pot. If your guitar's wiring is all original, your lower tone pot is in fact, a No-load pot and not a TBX pot.

Ok thank you, I haven`t open the guitar yet so I will look into
that when I´m going to change pups..

I`m going to take your advice and
use 500k potts everywhere.

What do you think of theese?

GÖLDO EL500 pot - 500K ohm A, 8mm thread with smooth action. Made in Japan.

http://www.thomann.de/se/goeldo_el500.htm

Or can you help me to pick/select new potts on
www.thomann.de ?

EDIT:

I managed to find out about my capacitor, its a .022uF
and I´ve got Delta tone.

You're quite welcome.

Believe me, you won't be sorry with the 500K pots.

Choosing from the pots Thomann sells, this would be my choice:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/gibson_potentiometer_01.htm

However, I know they are expensive. So, your choice of Goldo should still be alright.

You can reuse the capacitor in your guitar with the new pots.

Right you are!

Again, you're quite welcome.

The wiring of the guitar is slightly different without the TBX. As a matter of fact, it will be exactly the same as your guitar is wired now. The diagram is available right here at Fender by checking the, "Support" icon and then once the page flips, click on, "Wiring Diagrams". From there, scroll down and find your model guitar and click on the second, "Yes" column.

If you get stuck, don't worry, there's lots of people here (including myself) who would be more than happy to help you.

Remember, with the DiMarzios, solder the black and white wires together and insulate them. The red wire is your positive (hot), the green and bare wires are your negatives (ground/earth).

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Hello guys!

I have know installed my new pickups and they sound awesome! =)
I must say it was a lot more easy than I thought but thanks for all your help.

I have know had my pot`s shipped to me (delivery was late)
"gibson 500k OHM Audio taper PPAT-510" and I just wonder
if the wiring is the same?

Can I just switch my new with the old pots and use the same wiring?

I also don`t know if I will change the "delta tone" pot? If I change it I will loose the delta tone ability.. good or bad ppl?

Regards

Peter

So if it sounds awesome why change the pots???? I was even puzzeled by this statement Quote;
Ok thank you, I haven`t open the guitar yet so I will look into that when I´m going to change pups..
End quote

Your doing all this and have not open it yet!!!! I like to hear and play a guitar before I decide if things need to be changed.

I can always change it back.

So can anyone answer my question? =)
