I have the trem plate sitting flush to the body on my MIA Deluxe. I guess that makes it sort of a hardtail. I hardly ever use the trems on my guitars anyway. I guess that's why I don't ever have tuning problems.

My Strats have always been set up that way. The VG is. I left the Gilmour to float. I may change that.

I'm going to install a Gilmour string set on the VG to enhance the Baritone model, install all the springs on the Gilmour, and then setup Didarrio 9.5's on both the Gilmour and the Clapton, with all three bridges set flat to the top. 8)

Does Fender have any plans to make a standard Strat Hardtail?

The Billy Corgan guitar is a hardtail. I don't recall having seen either an MIA or MIM Standard hardtail in the catalog for several years now. You likely have to have the Custom Shop build one for you.

Both the MIM and CS Robert Cray strat comes with a hardtail.

These appear to be your choices. The CS Cray is going to cost, and you'd best try to find a dealer with one to audition first. You'll need to like the tone and the neck. They are singular to the artist. How wise would it be to order a CS Cray and then go replacing the pups.

I wonder if the CS would do a hardtail American Standard and what the price would be compared to the CS Cray?

In most of my ramblings I've never seen an MIM Cray on the wall. Likely you'll have to order it as well, with the same considerations to playability and tone as mentioned above. Do a price comparison between that and the Corgan.

Doc

Let me know how you like your Gilmour set that way Doc. I'm leaving my Gilmour just the way it is but you may convince me otherwise.

Here is the MIM Cray strat:

And it seams that the Cray model is cheaper than the Corgan!

(Here is the MIM Cray strat:)

Thanks for the reference. I am familiar with the guitar. As you well know, there's a great deal in the Fender arsenal that most dealers never stock.
I have seen and played the CS Cray at Manny's when first issued.

My Clapton comes with the trem blockedso thats a done deal and my Beck which is floating has to have the most sensitive bridge ever made even the slightest pressure makes it seem like you are flicking the bar,as a matter of fact if you watch Jeff on a dvd you will see him do this with his palm on the bridge and since I rest my hand on the bridge a lot I had to take care of that so I had that set up like stratoblues had mentioned with tightening the springs and never have tuning problems .So I can say both methods work fine.

Yeah, '06 was the last year for Am. Std. Strat hardtails. I was lucky enough to find the exact configuration I wanted just as the retailer's inventories dried up. I spruced up my '06 MIA sunburst/maple hardtail with a gold anodized p/g, aged white parts kit and Ultra/Dlx polished bridge saddles:

Thanks for the in-depth and personal on the Beck vibrato block. When this upgrade of the guitar was first released Guitar Player did a review on that particular feature..ie. that the strings could easily be sharped as well as flatted.
