The Billy Corgan guitar is a hardtail. I don't recall having seen either an MIA or MIM Standard hardtail in the catalog for several years now. You likely have to have the Custom Shop build one for you.

Both the MIM and CS Robert Cray strat comes with a hardtail.

Well all I did was put an extra spring in the back and Bobs your uncle. All you need to do is move one spring to the side, then place the 4th spring on the oppostie side so there are two springs on either side and a space in the middle. You could have five if you really wanted to but with four springs there is your hardtail.

Yea, but is a blocked tremolo the same as a hard tail?

A hard tail is a guitar with no Trem. Strings load from ther back like a tele.

For all intents and purposes, the Clapton could be considered a 'hardtail' but it lacks the wood. For some reason, EC thinks having all that metal plus the trem rout lends something to the tone he seeks. As quoted earlier, a hardtail is by definition, more wood, and a string thru body configuration, like a Tele.

I have the trem plate sitting flush to the body on my MIA Deluxe. I guess that makes it sort of a hardtail. I hardly ever use the trems on my guitars anyway. I guess that's why I don't ever have tuning problems.

No 5 springs don't sound like a "true" hardtail. But 5 springs and a tremolo block upgrade can cover a whole lot of ground. Plus, if you're playing a Mexican strat or a strat with a vintage trem you can tighten the trem scews all the way down and tighten the claw screws all the way in. I've done this with both my Strats and I have 0 tuning issues. Also, I hate breaking strings so I replaced the stock saddles with block saddles. The tone jumps out of both my Strats. If you really miss the wood you can cut a piece of hard wood to fit between the trem block and the body, which is what they do on the Clapton models. 5 springs, tighten all the screws and a block of wood. If it's good enough for Clapton...
That's why I love Strats, the easiest to mod guitars in the world.
Hope this helps
Dave

I was asking if FENDER was going to make a STANDARD HARDTAIL STRAT? I am aware you can use more springs to anchor the bridge. Its not the same.

You will never be sorry you went hardtail, pal! You will be able to do all those tele style bends and stay in tune for days. You get all the strat tone and comfort without the headache. I sit here playing with a Dunlop Jazz III pick and just punish the hardtail with the hardest attack and it holds a great tune.

The hardtail club is small indeed. I don't have any production figures, but I have done ebay searches for hardtails and looked at the total number of strats for sale. It has come up to around three percent.

I have two 2004 American Standard hardtails. Both three color sunburst. One with a maple board and the other with rosewood. Both are dead stock by the way.

My Strats have always been set up that way. The VG is. I left the Gilmour to float. I may change that.

They did make a standard hardtail up until 2006 I believe, before it got discontinued.
