Ok, so i had a post up a bit ago working on a heavy relic project.

I did a great deal of work on the front, quite a bit of paint worn off.
the thing is, i really did not do the equivilant on the back. so i need some opinions..

I have plans to get some gold hardware from GFS, tuners, trem and jack plate.. but anyways..

one, what do you think of the guitar so far? honestly. and i know relics arent everyones cup of tea, but doesnt hurt to ask.

and two, should i do the back like the front?

heres some pics:

Yes, definitely do the back. I dunno... maybe you could get the biggest belt buckle you have and sort of dry-hump the guitar a bit, then go to town on the resulting marks with a bicycle chain or something. Uh... I might just back slowly out of this thread, now... heh.

(that was actually a serious suggestion; sometimes you have to sacrifice dignity for verisimilitude)

Jag I would leave the back as is. It looks more natural than the front with the small wear along the belly cut. The front has to many sharp edges to the finish causing it to look as though the paint just cracked and came off. the wear pattern on the front looks unatural because its not just along the forearm cut and other normal locations like near the jack plate and along the top of the pickguard. Way over done I have seen a lot of 40 plus year old strats that have seen there days of play and they were not like that. Just take a look at Fender heavy relics and you will see there is more bits and sections of finish left along the upper horn and the very top section of the body on the front. I am not a fan of the relic craze anyway I see your guitar and know its not old and think just finish the removal process and refinish that thing and make her pretty again. Just being honest about what I thought but its what you think that reaily matters nobody else.

Gold hardware... are you going to change the pickguard to black and turn it into Stevie's Number One? 8)

its true, the front's natural relic was gone a long time ago. I wanted to over do it, why keep it simple? it was more of a SRV, JM, and someone else who's name totally escapes me at the moment.

but i do appreciate your opinion, and it was like i said not everyone enjoys the heavy relic (believable or not haha)

doing the back kinda scares me. The front i sorta knew what i was going for. the back im really not quite sure what it should look like.

Thank you jag_man for understanding I was not sure how to put it because I don't like to critic others work on some things because we all have different feeling about the relicing of guitars. Every Mans opinion of beauty differs.
That said now that you did the front go for it on the back add that buckle rash and so on. If when done and you not happy you just have yourself a refinish project to have some fun with doing. Make a closet classic now thats a relic

Love the look but iffy on the gold hardware. But she's your guitar, not mine.
By the way, did we ever figure out what gal6970 was trying to say? :?: Just checking.

I don't tthink so. The Spinglish was a litlle off so they may be one of our Fine Foreign Members. We are a World wide community with Great members far and wide. And who knows what other Worlds may be represented
