a tip to anyone using "Slow Down Blues": as long as you have a certain riff that is reoccurring, like in a real song, then you can just improv the rest. a good example of this is this little riff in JM's "Gravity":

e|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------12--12--14b16--------12-----12--12----------------------------------|
D|---/14------------------------12h14--12--14---12-----------------------------|
A|----------------------------------------------12h14--------------------------|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|

for the contest? you have to use the amps there. I'm going to use the HRD or BD.

at home I use a BJ and '59 Bassman.

At band practice tonight the other electric guitar player in my band told me about the contest (he knows I'm into blues) and I informed him that I already signed up. Guess what? He already signed up too and we're going to be competing with each other in the same round on the same day!
I hope neither of us wins, it would be too embarrassing for one of us to win since we're both in the same band and all.

The more I think about it the more I'm sure I'm going to use whatever Fender they have available. And I think that I'm going to play with the Funky Mamba track. My friend is playing to the Texas Blues track, which was my second choice until he told me that.

They're all listed in the FAQ section of the King of the Blues website. You basically get either a Marshall of some sort, a Fender of some sort, a Vox of some sort a or Mesa Boogie or a Peavey.

at each store, you can use:

Marshall JCM stack

Vox AC30

Vox AC4 (AWESOME little tube amp. kind of like a Epi Valve Jr. but doesn't suck)

Fender BJ, and BD

Mesa/Boogie 30 wt.

and then use all the pedals you want (EXCEPT LOOPER PEDALS)

thats pretty much it.

so I'm on my youtube, just minding my own business, and someone posts THIS to my profile (It has since been deleted)

"cbgb1188 has posted a comment on your profile:

Less than impressive at best. your goin down at GC"

what kind of taste-less, class-less ***hole would do something like this? this now has me practicing 4x as hard to beat this dude into the ground.

your thoughts?

I think that if you end a remark with "not to sound cocky, or anything" you will attract attention from people who think that you do, in fact, sound cocky. It's the same sort of thing as "No offence, but I'd just like to say something that you will find offensive and I'd like to get away with it, please," which is quite common where I live.

Doesn't matter, it was in poor taste for whoever-it-was to post that to your YouTube, even if they saw it as a retaliatory post. This storm in a teacup is over by the sound of it. Best thing is to just practice hard (as you're doing) and enjoy the experience... and remember that -- although this is billed as a "competition" -- making music is not a competitive sport. Do yourself proud, and it won't matter which place you get... etc, etc, and other old codger clichés  ... heh. Seriously, I hope you do well... it just seems to me that someone may have picked up the gauntlet you threw down earlier in the thread...

I actually forgot about that! should have chosen to say it differently. I know it isn't really a comp. it really comes down to meeting with people who love and understand the music they all love, and playing together. I know win or lose, I'll probably meet new people to jam with (and possible new band recruits ;) )

heh... I think it'll all work out. Besides, it wouldn't be a true blues comp without a guitar showdown somewhere... at the crossroads... and then your opponent turns out to be Beelzebub and before you know it the only thing standing between the human race and utter oblivion is your fretboard wizardry... uh...yeah.
