I am getting ready to buy a new strat. I play blues and classic rock. I have a Les Paul and would like to add a Strat to my collection.

I am between an American Strat in olympic white/maple neck or a American Eric Clapton Strat in olympic white/maple neck. I like the white!

Is the EC worth the extra $$?

Have you considered an American Deluxe? They have them in V necks also since you like the Clapton model and that one has a V neck as well. I think they are the best for the money. The S-1 switching is phenomenal. You can get so many different tones and the pickups are QUIET!!!

To pick between the 2 that you like I would go with the Clapton. It has the better pickups.

I have a Clapton Olympic white/maple and love it. I also own an american dluxe and that rivals the Clapton with a couple of other tones to boot. You might want to try an american deluxe strat hss, it has the double single coils at the bridge. It will be a little more Les Paul like

I'd say go try both of them, play them through a couple of different amps, and then choose the one you like best! Picking a guitar is a very personal thing, there are no rights and wrongs really.

I always try to play them through an amp I use...so it will give me a good idea of what it will sound like at home or at a gig.

I'm a blues player as well and a long time Strat player. I own or have owned over 9 Strats. I feel that for over all versitility the Clapton Strat is great. For very little money you could get a Jimmie Vaghn Strat. They also come in white and sound great.

My advice is to play everything under the sun until to you find THE guitar for you. You may find yourself getting a Tele, which are great for playing blues.

Good luck and let me know that you get. I'd really like to know.
