This doesn't seem to be a good time to sell used guitars... I'd hold onto it at least until eBay sales improve... Actually, I wouldn't sell it at all unless I really needed the $$.

Guitarists go thru phases. You just haven't got to your "Strat phase" yet. Keep it.

DH hold on to what you got... You might not get $800.00 for it now and the Explorer is selling used for the same amount. The Explorer will just give you another guitar that sounds similar to your Samick.

Make yourself play the Deluxe it will push you into different styles of music and you will appreciate it more.

Hello Dh2715,

Well if your handy and know you way
around guitar electricery you could install
a humbucker or two. Check your prestent
rout to see if it'll need further wood removal.
Or of course pay someone else to do it.

Cheers.

Every time I sold a guitar, I regretted it. Every time.

How about changing the b ridge pick-up to a humbucker in the Fender. I bet it becomes your new #1 at that point.

+1

Strats are the easiest to change pickups configurations on.... buy a pickguard and load it up!

I own two strats now. I had a Korean and I just picked up a USA deluxe. My wife asked it I was going to sell one.... I looked at her like she had three heads!

i had a japan made jaguar for a long long time. i wnatede it because it looked cool and i went throgh this early 90's grunge phase. its funny because once i got my hands on one i hardly ever played it. but i still kept it around. during this time i also told myself that i wouldn't ever play a strat as my main guitar cuz everyone one plays a strat. somewhere around 9 years later i traded it straight acrossed for a 97 american strat. best trade i ever did. i always thought i would miss the jag but since i never played it i don't miss it. so here is what i would do in your situation. play the strat for a while. till you get used to it. maybe even install a humbucker in the bridge and try it out. give it a about a month of heavy playing and if you still don't dig it, trade or sell it. if you sell it wait till the economy gets better. you sould get what you paid for out of your american strat. those don't de-value as mcuh as MIM strats. the thing about another humbucker guitar is your sound palette is not going to be as diverse. your samick and strat sound palette right now is pretty tasty...

Single coils have a purity and clarity about them HBs just do not seem to reach.

If you really want an Explorer, see if you can find a guy willing to trade. You will always get the best value in trading equiptment.
If you dont play the guitar, swap it for one that you will play. I have traded away all kinds of stuff, and never felt bad for doing so. Selling is different, because the $ can evaporate, and you wont have anything to show for it. Strats are not for every one.

Do you like how it feels and sounds? If so, hang onto it. If it doesn't speak to you, sell it and buy a sweet amp!
