I'm a bit new to the Strat and have a question, what pickups are used when the 5 position switch is in each of the 5 positions?
Thanks for the answer,

We've been down this road before....and with yours truly getting it right after 50 years.
It's 5,4,3,2,1 in the order you have listed...1 being the bridge.

I think the easiest way to look at it is when the switch is closest to the neck, its using the neck pickup. Switch closest to the bridge= bridge pickup. Everything else falls in between.

This is simple. 1 is the bridge. 5 is the neck. Look at Fender's specifications for its instruments at this site.

 I've always thought neck was #1 and now I find out bridge is #1? My life is a lie  lol

On the documentation for my American Series Strat even Fender couldn't decide which order the pickups are numbered in. Bridge is 1 on one diagram and 5 on another. (Personally, I'd always followed ZZDoc's numbering...)

So always safest to talk about "bridge+middle" - or whatever.

Cheers - C

Do not concern yourself, Officer Callahan. Rather consider yourself in good company. From the responses, apparently even FMIC isn't quite sure.....but the spec sheets designate the bridge as #1, as I was to learn months ago

Doc.

I didn't learn the order (5-neck, 1-bridge) until just a few years ago. It seems counterintuitive, doesn't it?

That's right. I have noticed that Fender has used both schemes on the downloadable material on this website (under the support link). I didn't count the occurances (in order to see which way Fender seemed to prefer), however. Any volunteers?
