You can't be afraid of the tone controls on Fenders. They are there for a reason. I know that a lot of Gibson guys think Fenders don't sound good, but they just leave the tone controls all the way up and never touch them. The tone controls are highly functional on Strats and along with the pickup combinations they make for an incredible variety of tonal possibilities. Also with regard to sound, it has more to do with your playing, phrasing and chops than almost anything else. Check out Phil X on you tube demonstrating various guitars for Fretted Americanna. He plays most everything in these vids with a fairly clean sounding amplifier. He makes everything sound just incredible based on his chops and the shear energy of his playing.

Hi TrapperDoo: you'll get no argument from most of us here. If you looked at my guitars you'd seldom see the knobs on 10...

"...if oyu are eating a genuine Fender Commissary Burrito, the butcher paper has a thick under layer of wax paper anyway. maybe the Custom Shop Cafeteria has one with just a 50's style butcher paper, but then I heard they also make chili with beans (that's like putting a floyd rose in a tele!!)." --Twelvebar

This is unbelievable!

Can we get some sort of clarification from Mike Eldred on this?

You need to talk to Chet about burritos as he is a renowned expert on them! At least on the forums. :)

Hold on a minute: I just checked one of Chet's posts and... no burritos, no cookies, no scones - he's not even inviting us over to the dark side anymore.

What gives?

On the other hand, he is currently listing his PIN. I must go try that one at a hole-in-the-wall, quick...

Big Jay, no offense taken.

That was supposed to be a thumbs-up acknowlegement of your wisely crediting the Custom Shop folks for being hot stuff and this picker's admission of being a wretched duffer with inferior aural capacity compared with those big-timers.

Wow! I'm shocked, no cookies or recipes from the Dark Side! What gives Chet!

Nothing for it: looks like I'm going to have to cook for myself this evening.

...Oh no, it's OK: the wife just walked in the door.

[Calling] "Shall we have burritos tonight, honey?"

What's the PIN # for? Ceri, I know your wife will take care of you! I am the main cook and bottle washer around here and I was using recipes from the forum. Chet was a good source. :?

Yes, she will! She's a really excellent cook - I'm afraid I've got a bit lazy in the kitchen as a result. Everything I do... she does better.

Hey, well then it's round to your house for dinner for all of us! How are your burritos? :D

I don't know. I tried using it to move cash into a Swiss bank account, but no dice... :(

I'm curious what kind of burrito we'd find produced in a UK kitchen!?!

Are there many Mexican restaurants in the UK?

I can't imagine that I'd stop in one were I to visit London!

See, Americans like to get snooty about our food - not realising that the entire world has exactly the same view of your cooking... Thin ice.

Actually, London is tiresomely full of your chains like TGIFridays and such, which generally seem to offer burritos and similar.

There's a big place off Trafalgar Square that calls itself "The Texas Embassy" which does that stuff too. Highly humorous name for a restaurant because it is right next door to the Canadian High Commission (embassy to you) and so looks very much like it's also the real thing. Presumably people stop in for visa applications, discover their mistake and stay for some Tex-Mex food instead.

It's run by Americans: if they're not doing burritos right... it's your fault!

Thank you! It's all done with a smile on the face. If I don't feel humorous - I don't post... :D

Cheers - C

PS I like that Tex-Mex food. But these days I have to stay clear of the margaritas after overdoing it badly one time. Ouch...

Ha - here ya go! Specially for YeeHaw - the Texas Embassy, London:

Many other embassies in that neighborhood. From its look you could easily mistake this for the real thing. I like the stars on the door...
