I played an ec signature the other day at the local shop and man it felt like the 120 foot water slide in WDW. fast - slippery and exciting. I should know by now not to play with nice things. unplugged its really just another strat outside of the fact that i fell in love with that soft v neck. the vintage frets were like glass. Super slick. has anyone else had this reaction. why would it feel so much better than my am stds. is the fret work more detailed. also there seems to be alot of these on ebay "new unplayed" for quite a bit less. im not really sure about buying something i cant hold in my hot little hands. seeing that i cant imagine having the money to pay for anything from the custom shop ever im my lifetime are these worth even the 2K. any opinions would help me.

Thanks as always jimmy b

Jimmy the Clapton is a great guitar. I have one and there are just so many tones you can pull out of it . I would have to believe you know it has vintage noiseless pickups a TBX and a Midboost so that is a big difference from what you have home also the V neck. I think you just hit it off with the guitar and yes there are a lot on ebay that is where I picked up mine 7 years ago brand new with stickers and tags for a grand at the time they were $1,300, I would advise you to do the same if you want to pick one up as you will save a lot of money. Just keep your eye on the listings and sooner or later you will get the one you want. I buy a lot on ebay so here are a few tips ask the seller all the questions you want to know. Even though it might be listed as mint ask are there any dents dings buckle rash or mods,so if there is any problem you are protected by paypal that item was not as described. I just had this happen in April with a Wolfgang the guy said was clean I asked twice was told the same thing got the guitar it had 7 dings paypal took care of it and I got my money back in 2 weeks but this is rare as I have 8 mint guitars that I saved a bundle on from ebay and that was the only problem I ever had.It is funny you posted this because I almost bought another Clapton last week a pewter 06 never played with tags for #1,300 but the wife has been nagging over my recent GAS spree 5 guitars the last 3 months but it is hard as right now it is a buyers market and you can catch some amazing deals beacuse of the economy, but soon everything will straighten out as things get better but a lot of guys on the forum have been talking about some great axes they have gotten at unreal prices.

The shape of the rear of the neck is nice. I also think small vintage frets are way more comfortable than medium jumbo's or jumbo's. Thin and tall are nice but rare.
People keep on about you cant bend on vintage small frets, or with a 7.25 radius board. I personaly think thats all hogswash. Never heard clapton, hendrix or green struggle to bend on those spec's. Ok clapton now uses 9.5"R, it wasnt that way until the 80's though.

I read somewhere that the only thing clapton practices these days are bends to correct pitch. Semi, full and tone and a half, at various points over the neck.

I remember reading a clapton interview. The interveiwer asked him how he learned and so on, and clapton said, he always focused on tone, not on speed. The speed comes with experiance. or pcp, or lsd.
Note: Drugs do not actually improve your playing, they just make you think you play better. :D
It is an interesting trend, that a majority of the guitar greats, srv, hendrix, clapton all abused substances at one point or another.
Back to the topic, if I could go buy a new axe today, it would be a clapton strat, no questions asked. But playing one is like driving a ferrari, its fun, but it makes you realize what a clunker you have at home.

So did the majority of "not-so-greats." In the 60s and 70's everybody did, and most of us did not become world-famous.
