I've seen those on every Mexi Strat. I believe that they are guides for the routing machines.

Hi Mr Walley: we've had a lot of discussion about those holes over the months and years here. Many theories have been put forward. One that many of us have subscribed to is that which cwpainter (above) mentioned; that they are there to position the body on the CNC routing machine.

Seems a good theory and it has served us well.

Then, not long ago, I was taking a little amble through early pages in the Forum's history and found this thread from the very first month the Forum existed:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... .php?t=343

You will notice that in the seventh post down Mr Ruben Miranda, a Fender employee, gives the definitive answer: those holes are indeed there for tool positioning, and he says also to differentiate between models (which is odd, as identical holes have been observed on both Mexican and American model Strat bodies).

So there you have it: the answer from the source!

People often get a bit sharp over things like this and advise searching through the Forum before asking a question that's been discussed before. But in this instance I think you can be forgiven fo not having seen a post from two years ago and 151 pages back...!

(It also serves to show that Fender employees quickly got bored with replying to the same questions again and again and wandered off to do some proper work...)

Cheers - C

Dude, didn't you know the increased body mass would mess with your natural, uncolored tone? Not to mention the crazy magnetic field problems with all that copper-plated zinc....

I mean, do what you want, but my tone is too important. I'd never put ANYTHING but pure silver vintage dimes in there, and never more than two.

(Do I really have to put this --> :) - at the bottom?)

[quote="Ceri"] Just love those universal, one size fits all, body routings.
Speaks to the value of a Custom Shop project. At least you get a shot at keeping some wood. Remember the swimming pool rout? :?
