I'm patiently waiting on another email from the seller... (ok, not so much.... ) this is from Craigslist and the seller wants $800 (probably will go a little less)

In the mean time, I'm trying to figure what model it is. The thing that has me stumped in the string tree on the headstock. It seems to look like an older type and not the newer roller type. Thats the question I'm waiting on.... I dont know what year it is because I cant read the serial number from the photo. Any clues? These are the only photos I have so far.

Those are the older style string trees. The tuners don't appear to be as old. The bridge looks newer too. The body appears to be from a Deluxe Players or Hwy 1?

That's what I get from the pictures...I agree...hard to tell...my guess is partsocaster...but only based on what I can see in pics.

To me, the Fender logo on the headstock looks right for an American Deluxe, as do the saddles. I don't think that's a Highway One body, though: Look at the nice transparent finish.

Thanks guys.... I'm still waiting on another reply from him. He didn’t post a phone number so I have to rely on email. The only thing I got from him so far is "yes I still have it... it doesn’t have any scratches"

what a wealth of knowledge.... I asked for better photos and when I can check it out in person.

Hello Kk5fe,

Looks right to me.

Ash body w/ tranparent red urethane
Foil logo w/ locking tuners
it shoud have a pop in tremolo arm.

I had a 2000 with no D in the serial number.

Cheers.

The bridge pickup has been changed so that will have screwed the s1 up. You need to ask the serial no' and get a picture of the heel of the neck joint too.
The neck looks right as far as i can tell, the pictures get blurry when magnified.

Hello Nikininja,

Back then no S1 switching,
it should have noiseless pickups.

Also neck heel isn't relieved yet
should be same as regular strats
with a Corona neckplate.

Cheers.

Mr Bill thankyou for pointing out that on earlier deluxes those features were not available. I didnt know that, i thought the contoured heel had been around since its beginings. That bridge pickup isnt a VN either. Its got black writing on it.

Has the date of the guitar been determined yet?

Just as an update to this since a few have asked questions. I heard back from the guy today and spoke to him on the phone. He sounds unsure of exatly what he has although he said he has had it for about five years but didnt buy it new. He made it sound like he bought it on a whim and thought he would play, but never did and now needs the money. I still dont have the serial number, but I am going to see it tomorrow so everything will be over by then! :) one way or another......

Mr. Bill, he did verify it does have the Corona neck plate.

I'll let you guys know what happens......

Thanks again for your input,
Keith

Why not call Fender and give them the serial number to confirm if it is a deluxe strat?

I have to agree with Mike and Big Jay. It appears to be a partsocaster and not a MIA Deluxe. I would not pay $800 for it as I believe you can find a real one for about that amount. This is only my opinion. Good luck!
