Here's a video on biasing.
http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-Fender-HRDV.htm

Please go through the site and read all the cautions and info on biasing. Keep one hand in you pocket at all times. There are lethal voltages inside the amp!!!

And another reason I'm changing them is because I want to get it all new and fixed to sell it and put towards getting a Super Reverb.

BTW: while we all recommend to Jimmy glamorous NOS tubes and the like, if this amp is just being got in shape for selling I'd suggest simply looking inside to check what it came with stock and replacing like with like.

No buyer is going to pay enough extra to justify fitting a fabulous set of cryogenically treated tubes or whatever - and his tastes are sure to be different, whoever he turns out to be.

Jimmy, in this case I'd get the amp looked at by a tech who knows this stuff. You could easily find it's just the pre-amp valves that need replacing, which will be reasonably affordable. Otherwise it might get surprisingly expensive, even for just bog-standard brand valves. This is in a different league from restringing a guitar...

Cheers - C

Blues option #1 for me, I myself do not need more gain out of my deville thanks to my friend owning a Krankenstein, which has just a ridiculous amount of gain. But when and if I do feel the need, I just run mah Tube Zone OD in front of the Drive Channel as a volume boost and that does the trick rather nicely. No tubes alone will change your amp into a fire breathing gain monster, but if you got some nice hot pickups and maybe a quality OD to go along with those tubes your gain needs should be more than satisfied. If not you must be a gainiac and need a Krankenstein or similar design amp. I prefer the Blues option though because it really does smooth out the drive channel and give it a nice fat warm crunch which can be used as a base for the heavy S#!+ ^^

Well reading about biasing, I'm not sure that theres anything wrong with the tubes what are in the amp right now.
I got this hot rod deluxe second-hand, and the tubes currently in it are Phillip's or something.

I'll try to explain the sounds I get in better words:
- The tubes go burning hot quite literally as soon as I turn the amp on.
- I get lots of un-wanted deep distorted-humming noise, and crackling.

Yeah, the Eurotubes site covers that too actually. Read right off the site under the info they give for the HRD and HRDV:

Quote:
The only down side is that they are torture chambers for tubes! There is no amp where the tubes are placed closer to the speaker that in a Hotrod Deluxe. We get calls several times a week from HRD players with brand new amps complaining about rattling and "broken glass" sounds when playing lower notes so they think their tubes are bad. The truth is most tubes will rattle at certain frequencies in these amps no matter what brand they are.

And as for the burning very hot thing, I'd guess whomever owned the amp before you liked a very hot bias. Just a guess though <_<

Do the tubes just get really hot, or do you get some 'RED Plating' ? you'll know what this is if you get it.

The colour of the tube goes orange. And when I put stand-by on, it almost looks like the colour of gas coming from a gas oven.
But I deffinetly think its a 'bias' problem now, because as soon as I just checked now, I got crackling and deep humming - which is how they describe a bad bias on Watford Valves.

Yea, something similar happens to mine having only have it on for less than 2 minutes. It probably would go that colour if I had it on for long, but mine goes 'purply' gas coloured.

Don't take someone's word for it unless that person is a tech. Bring it to someone who knows amps. It may be just be one tube, it may not be a tube issue at all.
