Hello,
I need a whole new set of tubes in my Hot Rod Deluxe amp, and all I want to know is the exact names of the tubes I need. (E.g, Titles of tube company, numbers and whatever)

Sorry for posting in the Stratocaster Guitars part, but it seems you get quicker replies and I need to know pretty quickly.

There are a lot of tube manufacturers. I use JJ's in mine in both the power section and preamp section. I do like to experiment with preamp tube though. I got mine from www.eurotubes.com never had a tube related problem with them. I use their 6L6's in both my Twin and HRDlx. In my HRDlx, I use their "Blues Option #1". Thsy tamed the drive channels considerably.

You can also buy NOS tubes (expensive), Winged C's, Ruby, Tung Sol. You will need to check the bias after you change the power tubes. I would just experiment to see what fits your style of music. You can always just replace them with the OEM Groove Tubes too. I don't like them, but that's just me. They usually last a long time because Fender usually biases them a little on the cold side. If they are too cold they last a long time but sound bad, too hot and you'll go through then quicker.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm really quite clueless about tubes. Like do I need the power tubes? Pre-amp tubes? Both? I know what they do, but I don't know what there called. Not to sound bossy, but all I want is the exact number and name of what the tube is.

So you don't feel that I'm relying on your decisions completely:
- I play blues, so a near enough bluesy sound.
- Preferably affordable ones.
- I live in Watford, London

What makes you think you need a whole set of new tubes? Are you having trouble with the amp? Don't like the way it sounds? Blowing fuses?

I dumped mine because one of the power tubes failed and a preamp tube went microphonic. I never had any luck with GT's. That was after 2 months. Tubes can last for decades or hours. You never know.

Well my amps making 'swirling' type noises and what I can only describe as 'deep breathing' sounds, and lots of other strange noises, and people who have heard the problem told me to get new tubes, and one of them people is someone who works for an amp company.
And another reason I'm changing them is because I want to get it all new and fixed to sell it and put towards getting a Super Reverb. (And I'v found one whats going for just under £700)

That's a great move. I'm trying to decide on an Egnater 20 Rebel and building a Deluxe 5e3 Tweed clone. My HRDlx is a dog and the only thing holding me back from selling it to some unsuspecting kid is my conscience.

Hot Rod Deluxe™
0213202000

The world standard for a portable, powerful, full-featured tube amp, the 40-watt Hot Rod Deluxe is very aptly named, indeed!

Awe inspiring Fender tone issues forth from a 12” 8-ohm Fender Special Design Eminence speaker fueled by a pair of 6L6 Groove Tube output tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes. You get three channels—"normal," "drive: and "more drive"—with gain and master controls for the "drive" channel and a "bright" switch for the "normal" channel. Other features include FX loop, Fender long-spring reverb, external speaker jack, internal variable bias control, two-button three-function channel footswitch, chrome panel with vintage pointer knobs, black textured vinyl covering and silver grille cloth. Cover included.

Thanks for the advice.
What valve manufacturers would any of you advise?

Hi Jimmy: do you know how to re-bias an amp after changing the valves/tubes?

If not, don't mess with it yourself. The least of your worries is that you might do it wrong and cause the valves to wear out faster. Rather more serious is the possibility that you might do harm to yourself.

If you are not sure what you're up to with this stuff leave it to a pro. You live in Watford (North London)? Then good grief man, what are you waiting for? Point yourself at these folks - as expert at this stuff as anyone on the planet:

http://www.watfordvalves.com/aboutus.asp

And by the way, have a little read of what it says about biasing down the bottom of that page - especially the bit about lethal voltages...

Good luck - C

Hey Capo. Which option did you pick. I was considering the High Gain Lead with 6L6s

I wanted a heavier overdrive for my deville.
