hellooo

i can't seem to intonate my high E on my 1979 natural strat. the way i was taught to intonate was with the things at the bridge (not sure their name) that you adjust action on, one for each string on a strat. the higher up the fretboard i play on the high E, the flatter the note becomes.. the solution i know to cure this is to loosen the screw for the thingy at the bridge (thus making the space between bridge and nut shorter. however, when i try and do this, the problem gets better until my bridge thingy hits the screw that holds the bridge in place.. so i can't make the space any shorter and i still have the problem

help please

This link gives mild instructions for intonation setup. Is it just on the High E? Does the problem occur regardless of new strings? Have you recently changed string gauge?
If the string saddle is so far forward on the bridge that it is hitting the bottom bridge anchor bolt thing, then it isnt right. The high e saddle should be slighty further forward then the b string, about the same distance from the b saddle as the b saddle is from the g saddle. I would loosen the string, pull that saddle back to original position or close to it, retune, and work from there.
However, before recommending that you do this yourself, you should also probably take it in to a fender luthier and have him take a look.
Regards
Jason
