Anyone know WHY Fender is dropping the Hwy 1 series?... I actually chose it over the Am Standard.

Er, well there's a little motivation for Fender to drop the HWY 1...

I agree with Ceri on that score. The HWY 1 is the biggest competitor for the Am Std series that Fender has sunk so much money into marketing.

Well if you are privy to sales at your local shop you would most likely find that it did not give the Amer. Standard much compitition in sales.

I'm sure that's right, really. The HWY 1 has been around for a few years. If Fender seriously felt it was hurting sales further up the catalog they'd have dropped it sooner. Though the number of times we've heard people say, "I bought a HWY 1 instead of a MIA Standard". Not a tactful thing to say out loud...

Oh well, just a guess on my part anyway, mostly formed by recalling the number of people who have said that they bought the HWY 1 over the more expensive Am Std.

Local they seem to move more MIM Deluxe and Classic series strats in the 700. to 750. area. Now you have the Roadworn selling for the in between price of them and the Amer. Standard.

Yeah, same around here. I would say if they are planning to drop the HW1, it would be to add something to the roadworn line. I also have a suspicion we'll have nothing with the greasebucket circuit for a while, then it will reappear as an option on a more expensive guitar.

Hey scarroll1: I was chatting to the owner of a guitar shop who's been in the business since the '60s, and he said the Strat which outsells all others is the Classic Player '50s and '60s. Apparently (in his shop, anyway) it does better than all other Fenders, including the Standard and American Standard.

So if Fender wanted to drop a model due to it's being too successful, I guess that would be the one.

We're told the HWY 1 is a good seller too. So you gotta wonder why a company would drop a successful model - and it's sure going to be interesting to see what they have up their sleeve to replace it with. Somehow, to my mind a relic'd guitar (the Road Worn) don't fit the bill. I think something else may be coming our way...

Cheers - C

Maybe there's another revision coming for the HW1?!

Well that is interesting Ceri.

I guess they had to drop one model to make way for production of the latest and greatest model guitar. Just happend to be the HWY 1! It will be interesting to see if they replace it with a guitar aimed at a similar price range or perhaps something else with an inflated price tag.

Man I hate surprises!

I've just bought (3 days ago) my HW1 and after a couple of years of playing the AM and the clapton series with the Gold LS, this guitar with it's "heart on sleave" tone and raw feel makes it hard to put it down...

Tell me about it. I bought mine in February and I haven't picked up any of my other guitars since!

I picked mine up from the shop I go to last night, and I couldn't put it down either. I absolutely love it. But I think that it has it's own distinctions, just like my Classic Player 60s strat does. I love that one to death and don't see myself parting with either of them. I am however getting rid of an ESP that I never play anymore. I may be an 80's metal fan at heart, but theres just something about playing some nice blues that feels oh so good :)
