I have only been playing guitar for about two months now, and I have wanted an American made Highway One strat since I first heard of them. The shops in my town have started dropping the prices on this particular guitar which has made me extremely happy, until today. I heard that the reason behind this is Fender is discontinuing the Highway One. Is this true? Has anyone else heard this? If it is true, how much longer will it be on the market? Because there is no way I can by myself one for at least 3 months!!! :/

I would say by the way these things have always gone down in the past that the HWY One is gone. All the signs are there!

I agree with Cvill here, but I would be surprised if there aren't any hanging on your local shop wall in 3 months. Might even be a bit cheaper too.

Anyone know WHY Fender is dropping the Hwy 1 series? They've been around for a while and from what I hear they sell well. I just bought my Hwy 1 Strat back in February and it's a fantastic guitar! I actually chose it over the Am Standard.

It is not that they are bad guitars but others sell better. I am thinking a fat head 70's road worn may show one day though there are others availalbe with the big head stocks for people that wont that style.

Hmm. I can't really see a 70's road worn actually working since they'd switched to poly finishes and those don't really relic well. I guess they could do the relic in the way that those 70's models that had the finish completely fail and the paint all lifted and chipped off.

By the way, what does HSS stand for? I thought it just meant highway one strat, but guitar center has a highway one HSS, and just highway one... So i guess that is not it. And which one is better?

It refers to the pickup configuration. HSS means Humbucker/Single/Single. SSS would mean all single coils.

There has been a lot of commotion regarding Fender dropping the Highway One's... The guy at the local guitar store said he got a bunch in at a good price. Not too sure what he meant by it, but prices at my local GC have not fluctuated. They are just running the $100 back on American's and some sort of free amp with some also. So... back to the local where I picked up a Highway One at the "lower price".... Found out by serial number he somehow got a bunch of 2007's all still packaged up from fender. So... as they saying goes, he gave me an offer I couldn't refuse!! But, still not sure if that has anything to do with Fender dropping them.. Just a good little story.

Er, well there's a little motivation for Fender to drop the HWY 1...

I love my '07 Highway 1 Stratocaster. It is truely a no frills, solid Fender Stratocaster. It blows the MIM Standard out of the water, and I too chose mine over the American Standard as well. It reminded me of the old school Stratocaster, but for me that was the time period I was born. I loved my cousins Fender, I do not recall what year he got it, but it was new/almost new in 1975. It had the large headstock on it as well. No S-1 switch (they hadn't though of it yet), and the 6 point tremelo.

It is a shame that Fender might be discontinuing this model. But as others have stated, I too forsee a Road Worn 70's edition in the near future.

I agree with Ceri on that score. The HWY 1 is the biggest competitor for the Am Std series that Fender has sunk so much money into marketing.

*Holy crap I got my first pick out of that one...yay me*

Well if you are privy to sales at your local shop you would most likely find that it did not give the Amer. Standard much compitition in sales. Local they seem to move more MIM Deluxe and Classic series strats in the 700. to 750. area. Now you have the Roadworn selling for the in between price of them and the Amer. Standard.
