Good evening all,
I have bullet neck question. I heard a rumor that Fender used N.O.S. necks for the Bullet Builds. I recently pulled off the neck to look for my self and see what the date stamp on the butt read, and I was boggled with my findings. There is a new stamp over an old stamp. The "Old" stamp appears to be 11-18-62, the "newer" stamp over it is 12-07-82 (year the guitar was made).

867, everything you said about the fullerton plant and seding the work to Japan is on point, I have to say I see the 62 in your picture it is covered right dead in the middle of the thicker ink stamp of 82 correct? The 6 is in the middle of 82 and the 2 is the last number on the right.Well if you read this existed it would look like to me you have one. Keep us posted.

There was one error , "Fender sold in 1965 to CBS who in 1985 (originally I quoted 1982) sold Fender to a group of private investors the plant was not included in that sale and was subsequently closed." Also I have recently learned that Fender "penciled in" the dates on the necks until around 1966 which is when they started using the Ink stamps. so with that being said, there is no way that this is a 1962 neck. I am 99.999999999% that is a 62 under the 82. How it got there will be a mystery to me. But I do know that this is one rocking little guitar that is 99% original (strap locks and strings, but still have the original strap buttons) and a 9 out of a 10!! (fret wear only and aging)
Thanks for your input!!!

sorry man ...i just dont see the 62 on your neck..
if you look at the top body of the 8 you can see it's thinner
which is the same with the 8 that you claim is a 6...

but even if it was, you would never know becuase fender wont tell you..
maybe if you take it to the FBI they can prove it :lol:

I think his point is that the 9 on his looks as much like a 4 as that number looks like an 6. I actually agree with him, after looking closely at that stamp. it looks like an 8 to me, with weak ink on the upper right.

Quote;

Mid-1959 to March 1962: Penciled by hand below the truss rod adjustment at the butt end of the neck in M-YY format.
March 1962 to 1965: Ink stamp in dark blue or red ink below the truss rod adjustment at the butt end of the neck in "XX MMM-YY W" format. The "XX" is not the day of stamping. Instead it is a code for the type of neck (for example, "02"=Stratocaster, "3/4"=3/4 scale Musicmaster). The "W" is the neck width where "A" is the narrowest, "B" is normal, and "C" is the widest.

Fender began using a part code on necks rubber stamped on the end starting in April 1962. The Codes appear as such:

Example- 1 MAY 62 B

1 is a part code (not day of the month)

MAY is the month

62 = 1962

B= the nut width

End;
With that I would say no you don't have a 62. The ones that I have seen were all pencil marked or red stamp.

How about a picture of the guitars body? I am curious as to which Bullet series you are talking about. The Squier bullets of the 80's or the John Page Bullets of the 80's that were made in Korea for a few months then the U.S. using some left over parts from the Mustang.
