Remove the pickguard. Remove the volume knob, its nut and washer. Pull the volume pot out from its hole on the pickguard. Put another lockwasher or two onto that pot's shaft. Put the pot back into the hole and then put the washer and nut back on. Lastly, put the volume knob back on. Fully pressed on, the entire bottom of the volume knob should be grinding quite nicely against the pickguard, thus slowing the rotation of the pot down to a most firm condition.

Hello Evh5150vanhalen,

I had the same problem with my 2000 Am Dlx
so i got some felt, made a washer slightly smaller
than the knobs diameter, pulled the knob, added
felt washer put knob back on mashing the felt a bit
for resistance and all was good. It may work for you.

Cheers.

Over time, the felt will begin to crumble from the friction of using the knob and from probable dry rot. It will begin to ride down the shaft like a dust, littering the inside of the pot, its electrical path and will start absorbing the pot's lubrication. Keep an eye on this.
