i was reading on another sight and one poster urged another not to build a strat with micro tilt. said the load put on the lower part ot the neck under the micro tilt system will eventually cause a bulge in the lower few frets. i have a pair of american standards with the tilt and would like to know if there is anything to this. i suppose i could set the neck -remove it- and then shim same as tilt screw. NO issue on my 08 because the tilt screw is not in play but my 06 am std has screw turned in a little over 1/4 turn. I was also interested in building a partsocaster with hwy 1 body and adding the tilt option if the parts are available. this way i could use a vintage style trem. I do like the tilt option, adds another detail to set up but i dont want to ruin a couple of beautiful maple necks.

That's a good one. I have an original 72 Strat with a Tilt Neck Micro Adjustment and have had it since it was new. If the frets haven't moved in 37 years, I don't think they will. It's due for a refret, but not due to the Tilt neck just normal wear and tear.

63 supro i kinda suspected this. the heel is a substantial piece of wood. it seems it would take a fantasic amount of force to bulge. it also seems that if this were a problem the system would have been canned by fender.

Hi Jimmy
I've heard all kinds of weird urban musician myths over the years.

Here is a classic example of yet more, "infallible web dogma" where in reality, it is utter nonsense. I'm sure though, that it will nevertheless find its way into hundreds of thousands of players' minds set as another 'in-stone absolute' where no one should dare challenge it for any reason.

i have seen the steel in the neck. didnt know it was a dowel -thought it might be more like a thin plate, do you know how deep the dowel goes. (over all length of the dowel.
I can believe if a guy didnt loosen the neck bolts as required in adjustment procedures he could drive the dowel into the wood far enough to damage. now he's not only compensating string tension -he's jack screwing the darn dowl through the neck. Mystery solve - thanks to all, i will rest easy.

Ps unlike model cars instructions can be usefull.

No way Dude. I've got a 74 Strat with the 3 bolt microtilt (owned it since 81) and the lower frets are fine.

My 72 has a thin plate that sits in a counter sunk hole.
