I LOVE sonic blue and rosewood :D Still, each to his own, it would be a boring world if we all like the same thing!

And no, I wouldn't pay that much either! I'd get someone to hand build me a spanking new one for a tiny fraction of the price!

Same opinion as before lads, it's still just a freaking guitar. Yes it's uncommon because it's old, but for that kinda cash it better come with a really hot bikini clad honey to display it for you.

Nice Strat, but I personally wouldn't/couldn't pay that price.

If it's cash the seller wants, maybe he could get Clapton to gig with it for a few weeks then put it up for auction at Christie's...

Nice guitar, I wouldn't buy it even if I did have the money. And to want the buying person to come and pick it up, something smells fishy to me.

that strat has rarely been played if its a true 62 (im not saying its a fake) id bet every one of my strats have been played 10 fold what that 62 has been. i would never pay that much for a guitar unless it was owned by hendrix, gilmore, or SRV even then that's a lot of money for a "player collector" to spend for a guitar no matter how rich i am. i would never spend more than 25-30 grand on a pre cbs strat and i would by a 59 slab board in three tone burst.
id also bet that he doesn't see 6 digits out of that strat

I can appreciate and admire it for what it is but never, ever would I pay that kind of money for it. YMMV

Well, if he wanted to take $120,000 off the price, I'd walk over and pick it up. Based on the area code, he lives near me ... he'd make $5K on it and I'd save airfare. Good deal all around.

Seriously, no because I'm not a collector, just a player so I only pay for playability and features. Collectors deal in a whole different realm of requirements. The two guitar collectors I personally know don't even know how to play nor did they collect guitars until that became hot a few years ago. They only care about how old, how rare and even more significantly, who might have used it.

In short, they wouldn't pay $0.02 for say my 73 Mustang -- it's not rare and I'm not famous.

That looked to be an amazing guitar.

It probably wouldn't play or sound any better than any number of Fender's current offerings, however.

The vintage market is currently quite depressed and who knows if it will ever recover to the heights it hit a couple years ago (what with the global economic woes). So that asking price seems to be quite out of whack for the Guitar Investor.

It'd be like offering General Motors stock for $60 a share ...

It looks a lot like Ceri's recent project guitar!

For $125K, I'd rather have Ceri's guitar plus a small house!

I think the real question is who WOULD pay for this.
It's in great condition for a '62 but that's a price of a guitar played by greats.
Think I'll stick to my very soon to be mine American Standard with $100 rebate.

Obviously to be bought only by someone weathly for whom money has simply become just a number.

It's an amazing guitar to be sure. I'd take a home though, thanks.

WOW, That was just beautiful and that was as well kept as most 47 year old guitars I have seen. Well obviously he had no problem selling it as someone took it on the buy it now. I am also suprised that no else checked what other items the seller had. He obviously is a vintage dealer as he had a slew of vintage guitars and amps .Some really great stuff .He has a great Taupe 81 tele in near mint for $2,800 check out the gear. I could never afford a guitar like that but if I hit mega millions I could see me treating myself to something like that besides its the year I was born. Look we know the vintage market is insane but then again how many guitars in that shape and age are out there ,at least appreciate that it is one cool ax.Besides when you think of the money that people will pay for a baseball some have gone for millions,or coins and comics and stamps that all you can do is look at I think guitars and cars are much better collectables, and as guys well most of us are guys we have been collecting something since we were kids I think I still have some G.I Joes in my mothers basement. If I could afford that guitar yes I would buy it as in 20 years it is going to be worth a hell of a lot more but as of now I love the guitars I own as mostly everyone here does theres but it would still have to be a guitar I would love to break out and play.I think the Gretsch penguin is one of the rarest guitars ever but I would not buy it if I had Bill Gates money because I dont like anything about it if I had that kind of money I would still buy the way I do now tone and playability.

I don't think it would appraise at that price. And all your millions won't make you a player.
