Dear All
Just got my Highway 1 strat from Ebay, listed as new.
It seems new, Boxed, with gig bag, all the stickers in place. Sealed bag with arm and bits and pieces. The little spring fell out as I removed the silver sticker on the tremolo arm hole. Began cursing the seller. Then looked on the net and now I know better. Being the suspicious sort, is there anything in particular I should look for before giving the seller positive feedback? All sticker and serial numbers match and as far as I can tell it sounds fine.
By the way what does everybody do about the spring , take it out until used, or keep it in place using a sticker?
Thanks
Lou

Hello,

Well I hope you find an answer that you are after. I just purchased a Highway One and I was wondering what spring you are refering to because I have locked the tremelo on mine. I have left that little sticker on mine where the tremelo arm screws in. Is there a spring underneath the sticker?

Hi
Yes if you remove the silver sticker, there is a spring underneath. I understand ( with my limited knowledge) this is to keep the bar from being too loose.

Some wrap the threaded part of the trem bar with TFE tape (pipe thread tape) to keep it secure.

Yep, Teflon tape works. Chuck the spring.

With the spring you may prevent over tightening but it can also lock up the threads.

If you do not use the spring just use teflon tape and do not over tighten and all will be well.

The little Spring in the tremelo. Recommended yes, needed, no. I have had my Hwy 1 almost a year now and I have kept it in or placed tape over the hole when not used. Some peopl prefer it being left in, but to each their own. I would not lose any sleep if I lost it, but I would not go out of my way to replace it.

What they said.

I've heard the one real flaw of the HWY 1 is the guitar going out of tune with some whammy use, so I won't be using it much anyway when mine gets in.

Besides that enjoy your new guitar!

Hello Guitarlou,

I take the spring out, wrap a slice of tape around it,
label it, and stick it back in the case. Couple a wraps
of pipe tape{like Miami suggested} and I'm good to go.
Sounds like a nice guitar, got any pictures.

Cheers
