Another newbie to the forums...and another Fender convert!

I just picked up a MIM Standard Strat from GC in sienna sunburst with a tortise shell pickguard (what a nice combo!) in the HSS config. I love the variety of tones I'm able to get out of it, and for a Mexican Strat I must say the craftsmanship was better than I thought it would be. It sounds sweet!

It's listed as a FSR (Factory Special Run, I was told) made for GC. Does anyone know of any differences between FSR guitars and the other standards?

Since I'm sure this won't be the last Fender I purchace I better start asking questions and reading up now.

GC did an FSR of Sienna Sunburst MIM Stds. It is a great acquisition on your part, as that finish is very pretty and will be relatively rare compared to the other standard finishes. Everything else will be the same.

Congrats.

Thanks for the reply 01GT.

The sienna sunburst/tortiseshell combo really caught my eye, but the tone sealed the deal. The only thing I can say about the finish is that the poly seems rather thick...by thick I mean "possibly bulletproof" thick! The finish on the neck, however, is perfect (for me). The neck finish feels so much better than the finish on the neck of my Gretsch.

An mim in Sienna Sunburst is near unheard of! Hold on to that guitar, FSR doesn't emphasize how "special" your new axe really is :D

Also I believe the thick finish you mentioned is more characteristic of an mim

I can't place which FSR guitar that would be. I know that GC sells a fair amount of there HSS MIM Standards that are Sienna Sunburst they don't always keep them in stores but you can get them off the web site most anytime for 499.

Thanks for the reply folks.

It was the ONLY MIM Strat in the store with that color/pickguard combo. I'll try to add a bit more detail to the story...maybe that would help.

It's a MIM Standard Strat HSS, 2008 model, bought at the GC in Palmdale, CA. Picked it up for 499. After I bought it I registered it online with Fender and checked to see the specifics of the guitar online. NO MIM Standard Strat in their catolog came in sienna sunburst/tortiseshell as an HSS. To make sure I didn't buy a "Partsocaster" someone may have returned I called Fender to confirm. I gave them the serial number, and sure enough they listed it as a FSR with that same color/pickguard combo.

Sounds like I picked out a dandy little gem (wonder if that was why they hung it at the highest point on the wall? Had to climb to get her  )

Hi APB, welcome to the Forum.

Just to add to your datasheet, the finish on that MIM body will almost certainly be polyester (with it's "bulletproof" character that you noted). The finish on the neck however is polyurethane.

Good to hear that you like the feel of the neck. You've hit the ground running with this guit, haven't you?

Congrats - C
