This guitar has stickers on it for its serial number and the fender logo along with the SRV signature. This looks cheep and is not the same quality as my 1998 telecaster which had these painted on. What's going on with fender that they would try and save a few dollars on a guitar with MSRP of $2,100?

Dude, I've played several SRV signatures and every one of them were solid, well build, great sounding guitars. And I've never heard of a guitar with stickers on it like that. Are you talking about decals? Or maybe you haven't taken the plastic off the pickguard yet?

No Tex he is right my Clapton has the same thing on the headstock the signature and logo are a sticker it looks like there is a clear piece of tape over it and when I started peeling the signature was coming off I was freaking out and mine is an 01. My friend in the shop had to take the neck of to calm me down after that I went to SAM ASH to look at the Claptons and they were all the same. My Beck is not like that and now I know the SRV is NEWS is right Fender does have a pair of balls for putting something so fugazy on a highend guitar

Exactly the stickers look cheap and nothing like what most of the older guitars have looked like, I;m not sure how much they save by going to these stickers but I have to imagine it is not that much. I would rather pay more and have it look like a traditional strat rather than something looking like it was made in China.

"fender stratocaster" is a decal but the signature is not a decal. forgot to check the serial number. nope, signature and serial number are painted on. do you have a real SRV model or a knock-off?

+1

I can't believe Fender would use a sticker for the serial number. Even Squiers don't have sticker serial numbers.

If it's come to stickers, "Wholly fock!"

Do your own spray varnish over the top?

I have an SRV and it is one of the best built guitars i have played.Solid neck, finish , and nice appointments. As far as the decals on the headstock, you think that maybe they are time period correct?Just play it or take it back if you dont like it.

Yep, the Srv neck is supposed to be a replica of a 63 neck which had a decal for the logo.

Did you order it without seeing it or played it and then bought it?

Like i said , the SRV strat is loosely based on the number one.It had a 63 neck which had decals on the headstock. As i have one, i can see it for myself. It doesnt look cheap at all.I would suggest if its a real problem for you , to take it back.I am sure the store has a return policy.

Hey FenderHeads-

Sorry to hear about your "SRV" logo- Then again...what did you expect? an actual signature? - It's a decal....its not custom shop. These are mass produced guitars that are top of the line for being an assembly line item. The are solid and have great tone.

If you are worried about the decals coming off...spray some varnish or "Clear Coat" over them and forget it.

Happy playing-

The Freeze
