Ok, this problem mostly involves Squier Vintage Modifieds but Mexi Strat owners might be able to help. I'm looking to replace the stock nut on my VM Strat with a Graph Tech Trem Nut. The precut Trem Nut is said to work with American and import Strats and has an E to E spacing of 1.385". But on my VM, the E to E is 1.315" (from the middle of high E to middle of low E strings). Now I'm a newbie, but am I wrong in assuming that that amount of difference would render the nut unusable or mess drastically with intonation? Or maybe my stock nut has an odd ball cut? What are the E to E specs on other imports? :?

If you want a new nut installed ask your local shop or repairguy to help
you. Installing a new nut is a pro job.
DON'T DO THIS YOURSELF !!!

Peter agrees with Peter :D

Most all American and Mexican Strats have a 42mm or 43mm nut, not sure how to convert your 1.385 inches to mm (it is 25mm to an inch) :)

There was a very good post recently listing all the models nut sizes!

In any event it is not a home job, definitely needs a good pro luthier if you want to guarantee the guitar to keep on playing.

Thanks for the comments. I know the post your talking about, it deals with nut widths, not E to E spacing. Mine is a 42mm nut width as well. The issue was wether going from the narrow E-E of 1.315" to a slightly wider 1.385" would cause tuning, intonation or other problems. I emailed Graph Tech (great customer service, by the way) and they said as long as there's enough space to keep the strings from the edge of the fretboard (which there is), going to the wider spacing wouldn't cause problems. Regarding installation, I have no shops around here. Graph Techs installation instructions are very concise and well written and I have no doubts that I can do this myself.
